A lot has been written about digestive issues and autism.

But most of it assumes the chemicals going into the digestive system are screwing up neurotransmitters.

In my experience the process of digestion itself impairs my social skills through distraction.

After I just ate if it feels like I am getting indigestion this distracts me from being able to focus on socializing or anything else for that matter.

This isn't very helpful, because unfortunately people assume if you are incapable(or capable) of doing something when you're digesting food that you will be the same when you are not digesting, and vice versa. And it's too awkward to explain an awkward situation with "sorry I was digesting food."

There's been many times when normally I would've been fine in a social situation but because I had just ate and my stomach was taking up all my attention I was unable to turn any of my attention to the social situation.

The problem is it seems like even the lightest foods use up some of my attention. A man's gotta eat!

Eating smaller amounts throughout the day is best, but it also seems like it's more expensive to eat small amounts throughout the day than one big meal at a time and I'm trying to watch my finances.
