How about an option for no.

I don't feel much anxiety over social situations. I just don't care that much anymore.

This one still applies.

* Avoidance of social situations to a degree that limits your activities or disrupts your life.

I avoid them because they give me nothing and I bring nothing to them. I have a office Christmas party coming up. I am annoyed about it because I really would rather do something else with my time. I will not likely enjoy it, but I'm not losing sleep over it either.

I was actually diagnosed with Social Anxiety at one point. The only one I still have is "avoidance of social situations", and it isn't due to fear or anxiety, but the fact I find socializing with groups of people tiring and boring. I would describe the reasons I don't socialize more as confusion, frustration, and most often simple disinterest.

I used to have anxiety about saying something embarrassing and be self-conscious in everyday social situations, and I dreaded any group activity I had to be involved in, but this all went away with medication. Some of the situations on the bottom list are stressful to me, but I think they are to most people. Public speaking doesn't bother me and never has (I rock back and forth and fidget though so I probably look nervous even when I'm not), but it bothers most normal people. Fear of public speaking is more prevalent than fear of death. Is anyone not at least a bit nervous before going on a date.

I was diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder 15 years ago, and AS a month ago. For me, my AS caused the SAD symptoms until I became older and acquired the same attitude as WaveFreak.

I have issues with making phone calls.s. I'm also too afraid of offending people so I'd rather not talk or say much.

I just get nervous when I have to make phone calls, same as talking to people.

I have showed some symptoms in the past, although I no longer really show many symptoms.

I'm still usually pretty quiet in a group, however.

Most definitely. My psychologist agrees that I experience a lot of social anxiety, but hasn't diagnosed me with the disorder.

Yes for most of them before being medicated. I was diagnosed with the Anxiety disorder(s) before AS.

Now I'm cool, social situations annoy me more than scare me....most of the time.

Yes!! I have every single one of the symptoms. In fact, when my therapist first met me, she thought that I might have social anxiety disorder, but then we got to talking about all of my sensory issues and some other problems and now she agrees that AS would fit better.

* Fear that you’ll act in ways that that will embarrass or humiliate yourself.- No
* Fear that others will notice that you’re nervous.- No
* Avoidance of social situations to a degree that limits your activities or disrupts your life.- If I wasn't so socially avoidant, I'd have much less energy for other, more important things. The avoidance is not due to fear.

The following situations are often stressful for people with social anxiety disorder:
* Meeting new people- I have an ASD, of course it's stressful! It's damn difficult! But not scary.
* Being the center of attention- No
* Being watched while doing something- It's distracting, but not scary.
* Making small talk- See "I have an ASD".
* Public speaking- I'm actually pretty good at this.
* Performing on stage- No problem.
* Being teased or criticized- Does anyone not find this stressful? Taking things literally doesn't help with teasing.
* Talking with “important” people or authority figures- No problem.
* Being called on in class- Because of difficulty with spontaneous speech. Not fear.
* Going on a date- Not stressful apart from the whole ASD thingy.
* Making phone calls- Auditory processing problems, the fact that it makes voices hurt my ear; the receiver hurts my hands, it's boring and I can't do more interesting activities at the same time... stressful, yes, but again, not due to fear.
* Using public bathrooms- No.
* Taking exams.- I'm great at exams. :)
* Eating or drinking in public- No.
* Speaking up in a meeting- See "problems with spontaneous speech".
* Attending parties or other social gatherings- Sensory overload and boredom. Fun!

So, a lot of the stressful situations are stressful for me, but for reasons other than social anxiety.

* Avoidance of social situations to a degree that limits your activities or disrupts your life.
(Well, social situations are always like : "let's go to the pub to get drunk while the music is on" or "small talks with people who have nothing in common with me" so yes, I avoid them.)

The following situations are often stressful for people with social anxiety disorder:
* Meeting new people
* Being the center of attention
--> Not stressful but I don't like it.
* Being watched while doing something
--> Does it mean, like when you are taking a test and the teacher is behind you reading ? Because everyone seems to hate that.
* Making small talk
--> It's not stressful but I hate it. It's meaningless
* Public speaking
--> Not as a teacher but as a student it's stressful because I don't want to fail, does that count ? I don't really want to speak in front of everyone in a town or a theatre either but that'd be the following point.
* Performing on stage
--> Had a bad experience as a child because I could not act properly and was humiliated by teachers. Strangely enough, I play a role when I teach and I do not mind.
* Talking with “important” people or authority figures
--> I have a strong sense of hierarchy, I put people into categories though I should not and it's hard to know how to communicate with "important people" but not stressful.
* Being called on in class
--> Yes, I don't like failure.
* Going on a date
--> Yes, but that's mostly because I do not know what to do, do not want to be late and am face blind.
* Making phone calls
--> I have extreme fear of phones.
* Taking exams.
--> Why is it linked to social phobia ? I fear failure and want to succeed especially when I work and almost everyone seems to be stressed when they have to take an exam.
* Attending parties or other social gatherings
--> I suffer from migraines because of my sensory issues so it used to stress me, now I just don't go because I don't like them.

I voted "a few" but I am pretty sure that I would have voted "almost all of them" when I was a teenager because I suddenly became aware of my difficulties (well, the others helped me realising my problems).

I think some difficulties can be justified by one's life or can appear to be "anxiety" to other people just because we don't like it.

Some. When I was younger it was a lot more. It's probably mostly age, though my health leaves me fatigued a lot of the time, which actually has the benefit of making it harder to be anxious (don't have the energy).
