we are looking for suggestions on anti-anxiety meds for my SO. he has severe social anxiety that hits him every time he leaves the house. he was only diagnosed this year at 39, and the main coping mechanism he developed over the years was to respond with anger. he gets angry and aggressive when he drives, shops, has to interact with people, etc.

he tried fluoxetine (prozac), but when he missed a dose or went off it, he said it made him feel crazy inside his head. it also wasnt that effective for him.

he tried buspirone and it was more effective, but he was taking it twice a day and it made him nauseous almost every time he took it. it also made it impossible for him to stim himself to sleep at night, he bounces/shakes his leg to relax and on the buspirone he couldnt maintain the rhythm.

he has been off everything for about two weeks, and he himself thinks he needs to get back onto something to help even out his moods as he is again feeling rage at other drivers on the road and the shoppers at the stores. he does have xanax for short term help and takes one when hes extremely stressed, but we'd like to find something that is a daily non-addictive medication to help him refrain from jumping out and strangling people driving too close to his bumper.

anyone have suggestions or experiences with other medications?

I have heard of this drug called Clonidine which I may look into again and might go back to my doctor and ask for it.

I'm a bit afraid of taking anything again. I was given a number of different ones and nothing worked for me.

In some ways i think I relate to the anger thing.
