I went to an event today where I was required to fill out a huge amount of paperwork. I hate writing but whatever so I just went through it. The guy next to me was just bitching and bitching "there's so much paperwork!" "I can't read this!" "I can't remember what this form needs" "boo hoo, poor me!! !" There are few things I cannot stand more than a whiner. A fair address of grievances is one thing, but I hate people who complain for the sake of complaining. Why do people just sit there and complain? It does nothing, it lowers morale, and it brands you as "that guy".

It's all about attention. They want everyone around them to hear them complaining. They're probably silent in situations like this in which nobody is around. They're the kinds of people who loudly complain about how cold it is outside, or about how bad they feel when they're sick. Most people have no idea I'm sick even when I have the flu, simply because I don't mope around the house complaining about it like most people do.

Ooh I know all about whiners, they usually do those for the following benefits:

- showing everyone their work effort "This is so hard but I managed it." and draw attention to themselves.

- hoping to have everyone agree with them or get people on their sides. Usually the best conversation I ever had with whiners is to complain about something with them. After 20 minutes of ranting together, they feel great and consider you a good friend. :D

- hoping to skip the work or have some practical help

I myself find it's very easy to connect with people if you both complain about the same thing. After all complaining can be productive, think about all the protesters, labor unions, organization for various causes, and things that actually changed due to people's collective complaining power. I think it can be considered an effective (though annoying) way of communication.

He was probably overwhelmed by it all. Some people with executive function issues cannot see things in bits, they only see the mountain that needs climbing. So, they react by being uber irritable and complaining non stop. It's kind of like a mini-meltdown only it's in response to being over burdened instead of sensory overloaded.

Then I suggest that you do not read any of the threads in The Haven.

You need a Penfield mood organ.

"I can't dial a setting that stimulates my cerebral cortex into wanting to dial! If I don't want to dial, I don't want to dial that most of all, because then I will want to dial, and wanting to dial is right now the most alien drive I can imagine; I just want to sit here on the bed and stare at the floor."

These are the same complainers whose every status update on Facebook is, "[insert complaint here]. FML." every 15 minutes.

I'm a complainer. And I don't do it for the sake of getting attention. I don't want attention. I just do it because I find most things so overwhelming and so stating my opinion about it is my way of being able to deal with it better, rather than being hush-hush all the time just because complaining seems to be ''wrong'' according to some people.

Personally, I like people who complain. My auntie's boyfriend complains more than I do (whoa, he must reach the record then! :D ), and once we all went out together, and he kept on complaining about every single thing, as though he wasn't satisfied about anything. He even complained about other cars on the road when they weren't doing anything to affect him. I think he just wants the world to himself. But he made me laugh when he complained, and while everyone was getting pissed off with him complaining about everything he saw, I actually laughed, and partly agreed, and I could just spend hours with him.

I was thinking about complaining about complainers...but...

I know what you mean, though. When I get the urge to complain, I just imagine what people had to go through during WWII and other times of crisis, then the urge goes away.
