Once in the main shopping centre in Wimbledon there was this stand with those chairs that massage your back etc when you sit in them. Despite me not wanting to, my mum forced me to sit in one (she's horrible like that) and experience it. I sat down in it and the minute the massaging things began to move, I screamed and sort of ejected myself out of the chair with great force and ran off. My mum spent a while trying to find me. I was sitting at the bottom of the emergency stairs trying to avert a full-blown panic attack.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or even just massages themselves? I cannot bear massages. The minute someone puts their hands on my shoulders, back, etc, I feel like I am going to attack them.

I can't handle most massages. The only time I could was my ex, who used a lot of pressure - more than anyone else has used. It could temporarily alleviate my tactile issues, but they always came back. I think this is one reason they're not as bad as they used to be.

I love a well done massage. I like medium pressure and sometimes light pressure on my back AFTER I have had a good amount of medium pressure applied.

I like certain massage chairs as well. The newer ones (which run about $5,000 ! !! !) are pretty good. I haven't purchased one yet as I am certainly not anywhere near a millionaire 8O

I have never had a massage and never would.

BUT I did once volunteer (no idea what made me do this ... seems like an odd decision) to be a guinea pig for a group of folk who were learning fuzang anmo (Chinese Internal Organ massage). And I have to say ... that was great :) Talk about deep pressure and then some!

I like massages, with the exception of certain areas in my back because they have little or no feeling because of scoliosis surgery 7 years ago.

a Massage if done right is wonderful and often far better than sex that's done well too :)

My ex couldn't massage at all, when she tried it was uncomfortable / unpleasant . My current partner is wonderful at massage and is the only person ever to be able to massage my feet.

a foot massage , again if done right, is amazing..

I also reciprocate and one aspie skill that comes in useful here is learning how to do something consistently good each time and listening for feedback all the time :)

I would have thought Autistics would like a massage, to calm our nerves a bit.

I love massages! Every time I even think of one, my back tingles as though I'm going to get one. My uncle's wife was a good massager, and had all the right equipment and a special bed and everything, and she often gave me a massage (and it was free of course), and it used to help me relax a bit when I was stressed and anxious about something.

I love my head being touched aswell. When I was a child, we used to be tested for nits at school, and I used to absolutely love it when the school nurse went through my hair. When she was finished I used to say, ''actually, I feel kind of itchy'' and she used to go through it again. And my mum used to comb my hair through with a special comb for nits, and I used to put a cartoon on whilst she done this, and my gosh that was so relaxing! :D

I think I would like massages,if done well with deep pressure. I've only had 20 min of one once. I don't mind when the chiropractor kind of half massages some parts of me before he does his adjustments. I want to save enough money to experience a full massage.

It depends. Some massages trigger the nerves more than calm them.

I went to see a chiropractor recently and I had a bit of massage as part of the treatment. I quite like them as long as they keep it fairly firm and don't do any kind of lingering touch because that's what makes me very uncomfortable and irritated to say the least. I did find it was very helpful though that she told me when she was going to touch me because it was on my back so I couldn't see.

It depends on who's touching me.

I don't like masssages... even the massage jets in spas (which I can tolerate for social purposes but wouldnt say I enjoyed). If I completely trusted someone it might be different I guess.

People think there's something wrong with you for not liking massages.
