I LOVE Egghead and I could totally relate to him as a child! Those Looney Toons were classic. I miss them. *sigh*

Even so, what would you guess?
I mean, if Sesame Street decided to have an HIV positive character,
that should tell you something about what writers draw upon.

Besides, cartoons are often based on real people.

I don't recall seeing him stimming at all but he is really quiet and he has ADD

And he sux at sports or at least has no interest in sports. He also has a particular talent at math and engineering, almost to a supernatural degree. I still love the scene where they play hide and seek and Foghorn hides in a box. Egghead does a bunch of calculations and starts digging a hole and digs up Foghorn. Foghorn freaks out and tries to tell the kid he hid in the box. He starts to go check it and stops himself.

The kid might be on the spectrum.

What's "Stimming"?

My son has an interesting speech trait...
He'll say part of a sentence...

(pause)

...ence, ence and then when he starts after a pause he repeats the end syllable of
the word he left off with before the pause (while thinking).

Yeah thats common.. its not echolalia its the other one.. but in any case its not something to worry about :P

And stimming is another trait of the ASD person.. its a repetitive action of some kind like a habit only its done to calm nerves and help keep self control when being overloaded.

Hand flapping, finger tapping, leg bouncing, that sort of thing.

[edit] Looked it up and repeating parts of your own words is known as palilalia.

My Dad (now 82) has always been a thumb twiddler, especially in social situations.

My Daughter has plenty of twitchy habits!

Sometimes I sorta twitch when I get really badly stressed.

Almost everyone stims some, but aspies tend to much moreso. Most people call them nervous habits.

Yeah my main one is leg bouncing and its usually going nearly constantly at a pretty rapid rate.. at least it keeps my legs slim and shapely.. even though its kind of unusual to be able to lift 300 pounds with your feet

If I had the coordination Id make a good ballerina I think.. standing on my toes and jumping without bending my knees is easy :P

I recently saw one of the cartoons with that character, and I probably identified a bit stronger with him.

What I liked about these, was that the kid was very competant at what he did, and Foghorn tries to get him to be like 'someone normal'. (I seem to recall him saying more or less that exact thing) This while he does all these bizare and generally crazy things himself.

Knowing those loony tunes guys, it was probably deliberate. Not just because they were trying to be funny.

I identify with him in some ways, but I was an OK baseball player and hitting the ball was really my specialty. I made the hi school all star team based, mostly, on that ability, alone. My biggest problem was that I would make some amazing catches, too and then I held on to the ball, the coach used to say 'don't take a bow - throw the damn ball'. I never could return the ball to play quickly enough. I wasn't always sure where to throw it. Too many calculations, sometimes. Oh well ...

It seems like this little fellow would rather figure out how things work than actually do them and I can definitely relate to some of that.

Anyone remember the episodes where Foghorn Leghorn was getting close to dating the mom, she was reclusive, stayed inside mostly, afraid to accept his advances, yet really wanted to, had him all figured out in her mind before she accepted, and then had to totally control him. I'm not sure what her problem was, but she made me want to avoid any woman who already had children. :(
