When I'm getting ready to go to school, I'll be all dressed, backpack on my back, ready to go, sometimes even eager, my hand will be on the doorknob but for some reason, a very strong feeling of hesitation comes over me and I dont even wanna leave my house.

The same feeling happens when I have to go into a place with alot of people, like a shopping center, or any place where there will be alot of people, that same hesitating feeling will come over me.

I don't know why sometimes when I have to go somewhere important I cant get myself out the door without some kind of panicking, I guess being at home is more comfortable for me but I can't live in my comfort zone forever,

I wanna know if anyone else with Asperger's goes through this or is it another kind of health concern.

I get that about going to work. Or answering emails. I know that, if you asked a thousand people they would all say I should go to that soul destroying job and I should answer that email that keeps me from what I need to do. But it is like a big hand is stopping me.

I don't think it's a uniquely aspie thing, but I certainly get it more than the NT people I know.

I got that feeling a lot, during my school years. It happened to me, every morning and I thought those horrible years and that horrible feeling would last forever. Those days are far behind me, and that's a great feeling.

I've built into my schedule for every time I need to go somewhere time for me to go and cling to my boyfriend saying "I don't want to go".

Same here, even when i am genuinely excited to do something that involves being social, there is always that last moment of fear and anxiety that seems to set the tone for that event. That alone probably caused the loss of my signifigant other of six years. It is hard for a normal person to understand extreme social anxiety when it is seemingly without reason. I found she just started to think i didnt want to do things with people in general... Not the case

I think it's a bit of an anxiety thing... but anxiety can be part of AS and isn't necessarily comorbid or anything.

Difficulty with transitions: YES. It's a known problem in autism, and a major cause of stress and exhaustion for me.

Kind of. I'm even lucky to get past the getting dressed and ready part. I haven't gone out past the front of my house in over two weeks I think.

Yes, I have this quite a lot. A couple of years ago I used to be very adamant about not staying in the house all day on my own, and I always made myself get the bus to my volunteer job without thinking twice about it, and it was just a routine I got myself into. But now I've developed this social fear of being out in public places, and I've realised that having 2 or 3 days a week indoors is rather important to me. So now I've gave up my voluntary job completely, and I have to really force myself to go out and look for paid work.

Sometimes I just wish I had a job where I worked at home.

Wanting to stay home caused me a lot of problems when I was younger. I was always having to go to family court and getting sent away for skipping so much school. I wish I could have been home schooled.
