Media and holidays these days.
Holydays have always been aggrieving for me, in my loneliness. This year, and the holidays are noy yet over, they have been particularly hard to bear. When you are alone you are also more liable to awful imputs from the news. Even if I try to avoid TV coverage as much as possible, news flood unchecked in your bubble sometimes, in a disproportionate way with respect to the other better things of your everyday life. After all your influence is nil compared to the disturbance the news cause in your mental life, and there is a tendency to sensationalism end emotionalism in the media which I think deplorable and negative. In these days we have been exposed (and in the Web too) to a hanging quite upsetting. I am in general furiously opposed to any kind of state sponsored killing, and, while I am tired and disgusted by the exposure to the daily carnage, executions touch a terribly sensitive chord in me. I think that many of us suffer for this more if they have no one with whom they may comment, and in this way somehow exorcise, the horror they witness thanks to the media.

As a society we don't seem to have progressed much in the last one thousand years or so.
I avoid watching the news; rarely buy newspapers ( except to do the crosswords & sudoku).
As for state sponsored killing and the depravity that is happening in some parts of the world; what i find sickening is the way it is portrayed as a pantomine. Like the proles are considered too stupid to see through the propaganda. But there is no escape from it. What can you do?
It's hard to avoid the news even with the tv off if you are on the internet all day. I am bored silly from being off for all these holidays I don't celebrate. I used to have friends who invited me to dinners at their place but they all moved away. I honestly can't wait to get back to work tomorrow. My neighbor's dogs barking and the other neighbor's loud music and congo drums have really gotten on my nerves. I really just hate this time of year there is freakin nothing to do unless you have tons of extra cash. The woods are too muddy to walk because of recent snows and its too cold anyway. There's no good movies to rent or watch on tv. Did I mention LOST has not been on tv in months? A lot of businesses are closed. This is so boring. I want to go to the lake or do something else fun in the sun. I guess I could go to movie but I hate holiday crowds. I tried to get something to eat but the guy grossed me out handling the food with his bare hands. So I demanded my money back.
I wish some of you folks were closer so we could some of us hang out together. I wouldn't mind seeing Cockney's Routemaster collection, but I'm in the US.
