Sometimes when I take a shower, the water feels like little tiny pins and needles piercing my skin. And it hurts no matter how much I adjust the flow of water coming from the showerhead. Fourtunately, my body can tolerate the water if I take my ADHD meds (which lower my body's sensitivity to the environment around me). I'm wondering if there are any other aspies/auties who also find showering difficult at times. How were you able to make showering easier for yourself?

I find it very overwhelming also. The only thing that I have found that helps at all is to shower in the dark. Removing one sensory input seems to lower the overload from the other.

I use a shower head that produces a very fine mist - almost steam. I also have one that produces champagne-like aerated water.
Usual shower heads are quite sharp on my skin too, I know what you mean.

I hate streams of water hitting my face-or going in my eyes.

I can't stand it hitting my face either. I like the water pretty powerful on my body, but I really don't like it smacking on my face.

One of the worst things about water from the shower is if it gets into your ears. Hate it when that happens.

I absolutely hate that, but showers in general never bother me. I even liked my dorm shower which could (and probably should) have been used as a pressure washer.

YES! I know what you mean!
I especially take a long time when I start singing show tunes... since I have a funny memory for these things. I can often hear the pit orchestra and chorus in my head. There are several musicals that I could sing in their entirety given enough time, but I have a small water heater, and I do not do well in cold water.

This is what I do too. I feel like I am in a good place in the shower, and I get lost in my thoughts. It does a lot to wear stress off of me.

I wanna one of those!
I feel the same way, showers can be very painful at first, but my bathtub is too narrow for my liking; we rent an old house and everything here seems very narrow.
So anyway, I have a choice between pins and needles shower or claustrophobic tub....so I chose the shower.
I think I will go on amazon and order me a mist showerhead. :D
I usually shower as fast as I possibly can while still getting clean.

I been doing alot better on hygene, though, dispite how painful it can be. I will try lowering the lights too.

Yeah, shower water takes me some time to prepare for. It's not always completely painful, but usually just very uncomfortable for me. Unfortunately, there being no bathtubs at my current residence, I'm forced to shower. For this reason, I don't shower as often as I probably should.

I'm quite the opposite. I love taking showers, so much so that I often look forward to it. I love the feel of the warm water against my skin - it's almost like a sauna. I enjoy them so much that my showers usually last long (unless I'm under time constraints, but even then it's difficult to shorten them).
