I've been to the other side, while still remembering what it's like to be completely absorbed in an activity, so much that even domestic fights yet allowed one to be immersed at Zanarkand in Final Fantasy X, say. I am on the other side... with moments in between, and it's much worse than just being unable to be socially ept (which I am still, of course... but now I have the worst of both worlds).

I'm just stating this, because often I assume everyone has similar problems with concentration here (as people always seem to have similar perceptions), but I think I can verify my hypothesis that most people on ASD, instead, are like what my experiences were like as a young teen... possibly in adulthood.

it sucks when you need to focus on something else but cant break your current focus. its not without downsides. it is useful for doing things that require constant concentration. like hyper focusing when driving is useful.

I enjoy being hyper focused, but it gets in the way A LOT.

I do appreciate it. It can be both a good and bad thing. Today though I'm unable to focus on what I would deem an important task so I'm doing things I would do in my free time. To finally feel stimulation feels great.

oh, i appreciate and often even enjoy my hyperfocus, what annoys me about it is my inability to direct it or simply turn it off.

i can activate a state of hyperfocus at any moment when i want to, but there is no real telling what i will be focussing on (onless i am hearing some good music), but after i do so, i cannot change the target, nor turn of the focus, so i must be careful with doing so

If I get my environment set up correctly I can hyperfocus on more than one thing at a time and have no problems switching between them. I do however have to build myself up to this.

My current area of hyperfocus for the last month has been understanding Aspergers Syndrome...I should be working right now...

well I start by hyperfocusing on one thing and then make sure I have plans for what to do in the future, then I start hyperfocusing on two things using the plans I have for the future to enable me to switch seamlessly between the two things I can build it up to three of four things at at time. planning for the future of one thing whilst I working on another using the plans I already had in place.

I can generally hyperfocus on 3-4 things at a time, provided I plan for each like the above posts... but the problem is there are way more than 3-4 things in my life I have to deal with! It's hard for me to think of everything at once.
