If you think you have autism but don't, you're a loser.

Why would someone think they have autism to be begin with when they were never diagnosed with it nor was it ever suggested? Because they have the social life and social difficulties of a loser. So, if it turns out that this person eventually concludes they don't have autism, the indisputable implication is that they're a good old fashioned loser.

Now, the question is, what kind of think-they-have-autism-but-really-don't losers populate Wrong Planet? I need to figure out which one I might be. :D

1 winners
2 autism
3 loosers

or

1 winners
2 loosers
3 autism

???
----------------------------- autism
Or maybe like this: loosers - winners - autism.
----------------------------- loosers
Or like this:

Relative?

Did I miss the point?

Let me post 2 things from UrbanDictionary.

Quote:
(example) Todd and Ricardo are two boys who actually have Asperger's syndrome, Kyle is a fake aspie who is actually just another annoying emo kid.

Todd- Hey, Ricardo, I'm going to pwn you in C&C 3: Tiberium Wars again!
Ricardo- They hell you will, I just realized that the Scrin aren't as good as EA games wants us to think, I'm going to play as Nod for now on!
Todd- GDI will still kick your ass, besides, in the whole C&C story, GDI was the victor in the First Tiberium War, Second and will be in the third! Oh yea, we have a cooler superweapon...THE ION CANNON!
-Kyle comes in wearing overpriced Hot Topic crap-
Kyle- Those football players tackled me into the wall and took my Chinese (made in China) magical charms.
Ricardo- dude, maybe you shouldn't have said all that s**t to them earlier today, I saw you talk crap to the linebacker.
Kyle- Let's put a stinkbomb into the locker room!
Todd- Let's not, I have a really good friend who's the Quarterback of the school's team! He's my dueling buddy on C&C Generals too!
Richardo- Hey, let's play C&C Generals instead! I call US Laser General "Pinpoint and Chinese Infantry General "Anvil" Shin Fai
Todd- I call Dr. Thrax and Chinese Nuke General Tsing Shi Tao!
Kyle- Man, screw you fake aspies!

Quote:
BTW, I know better than to proclaim to have Asperger's Syndrome even though I'm been diagnosed with one by the doctor. It is not glamorous or hot. In fact, it makes me too much like Phil Fry when I walk around in the city.

Even I'm unsure of "Aspergers Syndrome" and to an extent, Aspergers definition seems too broad. I'm DXed NVLD, which is a bit, uh, better to me anyway really. It doesn't quite have the "I'm an emo kid" stigma of Aspergers. Plus, NVLD is pretty easy to scientifically logically explain to people, I just tell them I have an IQ gap of 130 verbal to 80ish nonverbal. NVLD is tough, as like, it's not like you completely lack any of the normal human skills or whatever, they're just broken. It's not even so much that things are broken, it's the terrible imbalance of everything. You're half a genius, and half an idiot at the same time.

Also, though, it's weird, before coming to this forum I thought people with Aspergers were pretty cool dudes. Both my friends with Aspergers, had girlfriends, cars, etc, like anyone else. Just they thought through things more "logically" than everyone else I knew, thus making them great for bouncing ideas, debating, etc. Good friends for honest opinions on stuff, I thought nothing more than that, and I never thought of myself as having Aspergers until after my NVLD/schizoid diagnosis where they basically said Aspergers was too harsh of a DX for me (but also, schizoid, I wasn't being myself during that diagnosis, if I was myself, I'd probably have gotten an AS diagnosis.) So, after the diagnosis, I thought nothing at all of it for 2 years, then did some reading, and NVLD seemed to match me exactly. Then I started melting down like I used to when I was a kid and was like "yep, I guess that diagnosis is right after all..." and here I am here on Wrongplanet making big long posts about how I totally don't have Aspergers...

Wait, Asperger's has an "emo kid" stigma? I thought the stigma was more like "sociopath"? And the stigma for autism as a whole is "ret*d"?

I have much to learn about NT ToM. I can't even get my stigmas straight.

It's like this.

1. Winners
2. Everybody else except for...
3. Autism and losers.

No, I'm pretty sure losers have higher status in the public mind than autism, but most of the public thinks of low functioning autism when they hear the word "Autism". If there were a lot of the "aspergers guys with a normal life" like in 1000Knives' post, then aspergers would probably be a notch higher than the "loser" category. There's cool "losers" out there, but I'm talking about the original, uncool type of losers, haha.

Emo kids have a reputation for pretending to have aspergers to gain sympathy because they don't have any friends. But, yes, you're correct about the stigma for autism as a whole.

Now, if you move beyond teenagers and start considering adulthood, the whole "emo" subculture effectively disappears because only teenagers can be emo and then it's the jerks who mostly start claiming aspergers as their label. "Did I offend you? Sorry, that's my aspergers."

What if you think you might be autistic because of shutdowns, sensory issues, meltdowns, stims, intense focused interests, perseveration, and a sense of not being very emotionally demonstrative, but don't even have a clue about your social difficulties until after you start investigating?

I suggest the swbluto variety. A tendency to focus intensely on increasingly subtle or bizarre minutiae in attempts to create a certain knowledge that one either is or is not autistic.

If someone is a so-called 'loser,' then what is the reason for them being one?
Child abuse, being poor or really ugly or something like that?

Being a multisyllabic nerd is a pretty common reason. :P

Or, simply being uncool. Or Square. Or something like that...

As someone who "think[s] they have autism to begin with when they were never diagnosed with it nor was it ever suggested," I agree with you - I have the social life and social difficulties of a loser. However, I only suspect that I have autism because I have symptoms of autism (obviously), such as speaking in a monotone, bumping into walls, slow at social interaction, not understanding human relationships, daydreaming all the time, etc. Well, I guess that's the type of loser I am and I hope you're satisfied with my answer and figured which type of loser you are... :D

Two of the three separate responses in my post are jokes. One is serious.
