I noticed that arguments that would be OK on NT forums tended to be considered "bad" here and tend to result in threads that go the way of treasure chests having their contents secured from thieves. Why is that? Is it because autistics are sensitive or something? Is it because autistics don't understand "playful fighting" and any playful fighting is interpreted as a "real fight"?

Well, I think your analogy is flawed. There aren't really "NT forums" in the same sense that there are "ASD forums." I think a closer analogy would be with, say, a forum for PTSD. If you did some playful fighting there over the existence of PTSD, or who is or isn't faking it, there would probably be a lot of hostile responses.

I think it's simply that some forums are run differently than others, and there's nothing NT or AS about it.

I've been a mod on several forums, one several years ago where the mods were constantly trolled and we did a lot of thread locking and cleanup, and it was simply a rowdy forum. Another I'm on now has good communication between the mods, and if a thread is questionable it is brought to everyone's attention and it's watched. If it goes south, we decide what to do with it.

Different forums will have different ways of running. I've seen "NT" forums policed much more strictly than this forum.

Oh, yes, it does depend on the dominant personality. I originally hailed from ES, the digital land of customized electric vehicles, and while people tended towards the rational and civilized side, when people argued and insulted each other, it seemed that the crowds merely picked sides and bally-hood instead of the mod locking the thread. While some forums have some really anal-retentive mods...

I'm guessing that you're referring to the autism vs. loser thread. I wasn't bothered by that thread.

I think different things bother different kinds of people. The things that are likely to come out of my fingers probably annoy NTs on NT forums, mostly because I'm not cloaking my direct statements in layers and layers of sugar-sprinkled krap.

Some of us do get peeved when it's suggested that those who are self-diagnosed are "faking" or some such nonsense. I recognize that *you* are questioning whether or not you have autism, but it comes across as questioning also whether *others* do or if they are simply losers.

I was self-diagnosed long before I was professionally diagnosed, and I was right. There are others like me here, and others who don't have the resources to get someone else's professional opinion. They don't deserve to be labeled "losers" for want of a professional dx.

I've found a lot of thin skins on other forums. It's amazing how people take disagreement with their opinions as an attack upon their person that must be repelled as emotionally and vitriolically as possible.

It is simply not possible to disagree with some non-autistic people without them taking it personally. Maybe I fail at sugar coating my disagreement or maybe there's some kind of signal I don't perceive that I am sending that turns "Your theory makes no sense" or "I disagree with your theory" into "your theory makes no sense and you are a worthless excuse for a human being because you advanced it."

I hate it when losers start arguments and fights, then say, 'I was only joking'

Then they start gossiping about it like a whinny b***h, inferring the problem is with everyone else!

In your face, too many questions, aggressive creeps, can sometimes annoy me, but I enjoy kicking their butt

I'm not thin skinned

Haha, that's what YOU'VE been telling ME!

But, there's also another NT online who keeps telling me that.

So, maybe there is something behind the implied accusation. But, funny enough, it's only people online who tell me. People in real life realize there IS something to worry about and don't want to mislead me (That there's nothing to worry about) or offend me, haha.

What's with all the hostility? Did something happen that I'm not aware of?

I'm not even sure how I should answer this question, as it seems almost rhetorical, so I'm a little confused. I don't think that autistics are the only people capable of being overtly sensitive; just about anybody is going to get their back up when confronted with inane questions of this nature.

Perhaps it is you who is thin-skinned, which might explain why you felt the need to ask the question to begin with.

Wow! That other thread got long fast! I had looked at it when it was only two or three posts worth, realized it was playful, and didn't feel like playing. Then I looked at this one, looked back at that one on the last page, and it got seriously complicated, but I've seen a lot worse flame-wise on the e-mail Listservs (I'm relatively new to web boards). In short, I don't know. I've been in trouble after trouble after trouble on my home Lists, and often had no idea what I did, but I'm fairly sure was due to my Asperger's (a couple of times, I _was_ insufferable even by me, because I had the verbal equivalent of a melt-down, but then other people were equally badly-behaved, and they were NTs (I think).)

I don't know. People are weird. NTs are weird. Or maybe wired. I do feel more at home here, but I'm not sure why your thread was locked. When in doubt, apologize to whomever thinks an apology due them.

I tell you that because it's good advice. It helps to realize what is beyond your control. Everyone must accept that individuals will think what they will and there's nothing you can do about it. You can only control your response to them. Not caring what they think is easier on you. Now, if only it were easy to implement. Thin skinned people have a difficult time disciplining their minds to be indifferent.

This. I've found WrongPlanet to be surprisingly low drama in comparison to other forums I've been on. At least here people seem to be able to distinguish between a discussion and a direct insult.
