What is it with this seemingly rampant obsession with dead people and Asperger's Syndrome? I mean, every week or so, there seems to be yet another lame-o thread on the topic of "Did my favorite dead celebrity have AS or not?"

Adolf Hitler, Albert Einstein, Michael Jackson ... the list goes on. Why do people have such a morbid fascination with dead people? Why should anyone care what condition they may or may not have had? Why is it important to reach a consensus on what a dead person may have endured during their lifetime, when any such speculation will never be confirmed beyond any reasonable doubt?

To make it even more ludicrous, there are people that claim to have 'evidence' that these same dead people were gay, dyslexic, psychic, atheistic, religious, republican, democrat, libertarian ... et cetera. It's as if some poor schlumps are trying to make themselves feel better by 'adopting' a dead celebrity into their ranks and parading his or her name around as if to say, "See? I'm just like Albert Einstein! You must respect me!"

Well, good luck with that. I and many others can see through this lame attempt at self-affirmation and stolen legitimacy, so why pursue it?

Why should anyone care about you then? Where do you get off thinking your opinion is most important?

Care to enlighten me on your interests? I'm sure you won't enjoy me bashing them.

Your already going to die, and it's not like your going to be a genius anytime soon.

No, you can give but you can't take?

People just want to have somebody famous to look up to who went through the same things they did. That's why there are lists saying which celebrities have/had which conditions. The thing is, there aren't very many famous people who are on the spectrum (I can only name 3 confirmed cases off the top of my head) so that causes people to speculate about who might have it, but either never got diagnosed or don't want to go public about it. It's really no different than the way that gay/bisexual people speculate about the sexualities of their favorite celebrities. (I can relate to that too, because I am bisexual and I have speculations of this kind about one of my favorite stars.)

No reason. Then again, I don't expect anyone else to care about me; yet here you are, caring enough about me to respond to one of my posts. Thank you. Thank you very much.

I don't. Where do you get off assuming that I do?

Care to read through all of my 10,000-plus posts and determine them for yourself?

My I.Q. is in excess of 140 (circa 2009), as measured by a trained and licensed mental-health professional.

Another false assumption. I've "taken it" from an alcoholic father, a pill-popping ex-wife, three drill instructors, numerous commissioned officers, lawyers, police, judges, union thugs, and the occasional schizophrenic homeless person. If I can "take it" from them, then I can "take it" from you.

Face it, kid. Not everyone agrees with the idea of speculating about dead people. Even fewer seem to agree with the idea of labeling dead people with syndromes and disorders that they were never diagnosed as having while they were alive.

Having dead aspies heros aint that bad is it?

Many I know reached out to humanity in a typical aspie manner, and I find that noble and worthy. Aspiring as we do, and suffering an undeserved bad rep, holding forth famous aspies legitimises our position.... and seems okay to me. Things like that increase solidarity amongst peeps

I dont mind standing on the shoulders of giants to seem a bit taller, and picking dead aspies from history is kinda fun for me, though I prefer spotting footy stars myself

Not as long as those dead heroes were confirmed as Aspies by a trained and licensed mental-health professional before they died.

We didn't mean that in a come on kinda way. We were just supporting your posts. And the ideas behind them which we both probably got but didn't work into a topic.

I meant that in a fun kinda way.

I'm explaining too much, aren't I?
I only said this because you mentioned your wife and I know that one of the things I do to signal others when they are getting too "close" is to mention my husband.

God, I overanalyze everything don't I?

Thats OK.

Well aren't you special, would you like an award?

Care for an IQ challenge? - I'm sick of people like you creating posts and answers just to bash people. So I choose to bash the bashers.

Are you in school?

Your supporting someone who is bashing other people? - that doesn't make sense.

We've done research and decided that denying dead aspies their historical neurological existance, on the grounds of lack of testing..... has less intellectual merit

than pondering their autism/ADHD/schz/ sexuality/whatever... in time as we do
