You know what happens when you don't socialize for a long time? You get depressed and you don't feel like doing anything and when you do stuff, you aren't that productive (Depressed people are less productive). If you do decide to shoot the wind, you end up wasting a lot of time on talking about stupid crap. So, there is only so much that you can accomplish in a day.

If you have AS? Man, you can sit back and relax and focus on whatever you want with ease without being bothered to socialize. Robots have the advantage of basically being able to focus all their time on some pursuit and being as productive as possible and things like depression don't affect robots, so the more robotic brothers of the human species have the productivity advantage. It's just about the only way Bill Gates had become as successful as he was in the early days.

So, if you want to accomplish a lot, being an NT sucks.

Being Autistic sucks, no one around you understand you, and people either think your a sociopath or ret*d at first glance. Being called robotic does not feel good, it suggests we are subhuman and we don't like being treated subhuman.

Let me give you a little about my perspective. I'm an avid fan of the inevitable future event called The Singularity, and at some time after then, cybernetic organisms will have become better and smarter than humans and this is what I have in my mind when I think of robots -- think Major Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell -- she's fast, precise, freaking smart, doesn't tire and helluva lot better than ordinary humans. I know that society often associates it with R2D2, but believe me when I say I mean "robotic" as a compliment.

Yea. I wish I was a robot that never became lonely or depressed.

The thing is people on the autism spectrum need socialization just as much as most NTs. If there was no need for autistic people to relate to others this forum wouldn't exist. Or perhaps all the people who post on here, obviously trying to find people who can relate to them, are falsely diagnosed NT's?

Now that I think about it, the real difference between me and the average NT is this: wasting time talking about stupid crap doesn't resolve my loneliness. I get bored and listless around people when I can't find a common point of interest. A lot of NT's seem to be able to socialize with anyone and don't have the same need for intellectual and emotional stimulation in a conversation that I do. For them simply being around others is enough. For me it's not.

Being an aspie sucks. You want to socialize but you keep getting rejected and people always have excuses for why they can't go out or come over. You try and join in conversations and people tell you to shut up or tell you to mind your own business or accuse you of being rude and interrupting. Plus they sometimes ignore you like they don't hear you. Plus you find their conversations boring and you aren't enjoying it and you have nothing to say and by the time you do, the topic had moved on.

This is why I love to be alone and don't need friends because it's a whole lot easier than dealing with all this. I gave up on friends in my teens. But the downside to that is it makes your life harder. I can sit here and be depressed about it but I'd rather be happy and just accept it.

Who says people with AS don't want or need to socialize? I know some don't have a desire to do so, but I do. I just have trouble doing it. THAT sucks. I *wish* I were a robot who didn't need human contact...that would be far superior to wanting it and screwing it up all the time.

You do realise this thread is going to get a lot of backlash? If you didn't see it coming then you may be less NT than you think.

Anywho,

I've had severe depression, anxiety, been suicidal etc.

There is a part of my autism that saves me from this (or some other part of me that does it).
When I'm depressed I know that reading or watching a comedy will make me feel better. It's usually just hormonal depression but that's when it is at its most severe.

Anxiety takes a bit of work. Usually it takes a complete deactivation of emotions. Oh, I guess I am a robot - awkward!
Note: South Park reference.

I'm a driven to succeed type of person and sometimes I will leave my emotions by the door to get through a situation. Perhaps not the best solution but emotions really do interfere with my plans. So in a way my autism does help by making my symptoms so severe that I really can't be in the same room with people and when I am I don't relate to them on an emotional level. I don't like it that it's that way but anxiety/depression is worse.

I tend to think of myself as more of a Time Lord. Tougher physiology than humans, two hearts and a few extra organs, telepathic, can live many 1000's of years but can regenerate and each time appears to be getting younger and younger. Oh, and have knowledge of all of time. That's helpful too. I do love my history.
The Doctor doesn't always show empathy or relate to people on a level they would expect. I love how the 11th Doctor is clueless when it comes to some social customs.

well the majority of the NTs r like that, some are not. I know some NT teens who would not go crazy, some NT teens who are shy and quiet in class.. and are good honor roll kids. And I know some NT teens who are just well PARROT TALKATIVE xD. Some NT teens are just downrite disrespuctful and bother me... not ASPIE teens I cannot just stand. You see, its any type of teen be it aspie or NT or bipolar that have some stuff that bother me. Though i get along with them... at school i may not be that social butterfly but i am a team player with my peers, and i can help them and they get me. But yea, it just bothers me how aspies think that NTs are the sterotype of socailizing 24/7... Nope. some NTs are loners, some NTs like to talk but work hard...

DOnt sterotype aspies. as it annoy me when NTs sterotype aspies as the "freak werid o" dont sterotype the Nts neither. people are all different ;)

 He's probably counting on it.

Just because one finds things endlessly interesting does not instantly equate to 'productive'. Logic fail.

The gardening has been unproductive. :P

Is it really that endlessly interesting?! :P Now, if you have an interest in an endless garden, I understand...

Do you like to eat? Endless gardening is in the species best interest, especially at this population density... In other news, my bamboo is swallowing my backyard and I do not have enough drive to attempt to tame it. The power of the humble plant does endlessly fascinate me. Gotta respect bamboo. It is a force of nature in its own right.

Robots will never be smarter than humans... after all we program them.

Besides, you'll be long dead before we even get close to what you're talking about. Bad luck OP.

I have a strong desire to socialise but can't relate. Does that make me half-aspie and half-NT? Argh, it's like I'm stuck in limbo

That makes you full aspie (though not being able to relate is not enough to make a diagnosis). Aspies want to socialize too, they just find it harder, and they might desire something fundamentally different from it than NT people.
