It has always been a bit odd to me that people could like one color more than another or one taste more than another, or somebody more than somebody else. In my every day life, I just lie about liking or disliking things because I don't want to have to explain that the whole concept of liking stuff is strange to me. So probably some people have a similar way of thinking.

That happens to me with everyday stuff. I tend not to have strong opinions or preferences. I too have gotten in the habit of just making up my likes and dislikes so people will leave me alone about it. Where it causes problems is when I'm forced to make a decision about something and I can't see anything better about either thing. It really doesn't matter to me. I can see good and bad points in everything.

That said, I do understand the concept, but never really understood it intuitively. I was never someone with strong opinions.

I have preferences for just about everything but they are for much different reasons than most people.

You said colors:
I like most colors except shades of brown. I prefer colors in general to be low in saturation. I don't like bright colors much, I prefer darker colors.

Taste: I prefer dry, crunchy and salty things, perhaps other stuff too.

I start getting strange looks from NT people about now :)

Taking decisions is also something hard to me, but I have strong opinions, about politics for example. I think people tend to like what they are good and what they think is good for them, but most of the time, the reason why they like stuff is so integrated in them that they don't even see it. I think very much in terms of causes and consequences.

Could it be alexithymia?

I also think that liking and disliking isn't as absolute or simple as it's cracked up to be. We imagine that when somebody says they like a thing, that we will make them happy by giving them that thing. But with me it depends on all kinds of stuff being right at the time as well. I get a whole spectrum of feelings over just about anything. There will often be a predomination of good or bad feelings, but there will be both in any experience.
