Just think about it.

He Follows a strict routine.

Has trouble making/keeping friends.

Gets rejected from social clicks, groups.

Bullies target him.

Nearly everyone gets weird-ed out by him.

Perfectionist

Knows nearly everything about mermaid man and barnacle boy.

What do you guys think?

I think Spongebob Squarepants is a fictional character designed to exhibit personality characteristics that the average 12-year old might find funny.

That those characteristics have a lot in common with stereotypical Aspie behavior is a mere coincidence, I'm sure.

Wow. That's... sensical. Be the subject's observed qualities intentional or not.

Not just intentional, but present by design. Spongebob is a product of the entertainment industry; thus, he's been fine-tuned to be entertaining.

He's an animated fictional character - there's nothing profound about it.

That's probably why I got made fun of so much when I was 12...

This, perhaps a tad younger

I'm sure this site has had it's fair share of everyone being accused of asperger's or autism, everyone from adolf hitler to spongebob. :?

I love Spongebob. So glad I have kids so I can get away with watching him. ;)

It has never occurred to me that he might be Aspie. Squidward on the other hand is for sure, IMO.

I think Squidward is just a lonely old guy that doesn't want to get hurt again, so he acts mean to keep others at arm's length (tentacle's length?).

I've often thought SpongeBob was an Aspie:

Talks with high pitch with nasal tone and unusual inflection

Special interest that is unusual in intensity and focus (making Krabby Patties)

Doesn't pick up on social cues (like the fact that Squidward can't stand him)

Poor motor skills (can't learn to drive)

I sometimes get slightly offended at Spongebob. Not in an over the top mums protecting their kids from harmful television kind of way, but because he reminds me that people like to laugh at people they consider 'stupid.'

I still think the show is funny and watch it when nothing else is on.

ha ha i love spongebob, I used to watch it all the time. In addition, another aspie trait, he takes people super literally and he goes overboard due to his literal interpretation

I often thought that Spongebob could be an aspie. Then again I kind of thought that Patrick and Squidward could be aspies too....
