I went on my first rollercoaster today and it was a gut wrenching experience.
It wasnt solely the rides but also the crowds, the noise, the special effects and all this other minutiae that NTs seem so unmoved by.
I actually think that NTs crave this amount of sensory input that causes me to overload.
Could this be related to a sensory meltdown or is it just me being a wimp again?

Thoughts please :D

Nah, not a wimp. You just discovered you didn't like roller coasters. That's okay; plenty of people don't.

I don't like 'em either. Heck, I don't even like going 60 mph in a car on the highway. Give me a long walk over hurtling through space faster than the human body was ever designed to do...

I don't like the extreme ones. Some roller coasters I like but the huge ones. I don't understand how people can like the intense feeling inside them.

I love rollercoasters, down to the last gut wrenching one. If I can get out alive, I will try a rollercoaster.

Bring it. 8)

I don't like roller coasters - they are utterly terrifying and then I feel sick. Not fun.
I agree that amusement parks are sensory overloading. I try to avoid them.

I enjoy rollercoasters. It's the actual amusement parks I have trouble with. TOO. MANY. HUMANS. AAAAAHHHHHHH.

I refuse to ride rollercoasters or go to amusement parks at all. Doesn't sound fun to me whatsoever.

When I was about 11, we were staying in a holiday camp. It had a fun fair and you could go on the rides as often as you liked, without paying any extra. I spent hours going on loads of rides and, at the end of it, I felt the most nauseous I've ever felt. I've never felt like going on anything since then.

This year, we took our daughter to Thomasland, which is in Drayton Manor. We only went on the Thomas rides with her, even though we had paid a small fortune (£30 each) to get in and could have gone on anything we wanted. My husband, both parents and I took it in turns to go on with her. Even watching some of the rides made me feel sick and dizzy.

But, there is one rollercoaster I don't mind. It's in an environmentally friendly theme park in Wales. The rollercoaster harnesses people-power and actually generates more electricity than it uses. The ride only lasts about a minute and doesn't make me feel sick.

I'm afraid of rollercoasters too. And other rides. Like the freefall ones. And the swinging boat ride. I'm pretty much afraid of being in anything that is moving a lot and I can't control the horizontal and the vertical.

I like many of the Disney World rides but I won't go on any roller coasters and most amusement park rides. I get motion sickness very easily.

Also these rides aren't always safe and the risk vs reward isn't worth it when there is no reward.

Same here. The bigger, the better. Theme parks are among the few crowded places where I don't feel uncomfortable.

I can relate to this completely. I once went on a kiddie roller coaster (yes, a *kiddie* roller coaster) when I was ten. My parents and I were vacationing on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls along with some family friends. We went to this amusement park called Marineland, and I went on this kiddlie roller coaster there along with the daughter in the other family, who is my friend as well.

It was the most harrowing, gut wrenching feeling. I was screaming in terror the entire time. I nearly strangled my friend, as I had grabbed her neck in a death grip in my panic.

I don't do rides, not even the Merry Go Round. I can't even climb onto those horses, much less feel even remotely secure sitting astride one. I just can't tolerate the vestibular input brought about by amusement park rides.

Rollercoasters are scary! I can handle fast cars but with rollercoasters they go all over the place, makes me nauseous :eew:

I don't remember ever having been on one. As a kid I hated all rides, even the merry-go-round, where I found the animals sinister-looking. I especially hated bumper cars and would sit frozen behind the wheel as the other kids walloped me. Often some kind father who was disturbed by their glee would rescue me.

Funny that as a kid I was; I wouldn't be as afraid to give 'em a shot now...but the point is moot anyway, as due to my bad back, I can't go on 'em anyway.
