I'm extremely sensitive to heat. I cannot stand hot air blowing in my face, it feels like I'm suffocating. I don't like using a hair dryer or facing a fireplace or other heat source. I can smell when someone turns on the heat in the house. Having the heat on in the car is horrible. Just curious if anyone relates to this and whether its related to autism or just a strange quirk. I'm not diagnosed but pretty sure I'm on the spectrum.

I'm not as sensitive to it as you are, but I don't really like heat. I espcially can't stand being outside in the sun for too long. I prefer a much cooler temperature, and here I am living in Southern California.

I never liked hair dryers and I can't stand heat either. I always keep the heat down in my apartment and had to turn it down last night. Heat is very hard for me.

After walking to my car in the rain this afternoon, it felt really good to turn up the heat as I was driving home. But, usually, I'd agree.

Everything you described its exactly how heat makes me feel and I am diagnosed. We have a lot of over sensitivity problems but they vary from aspie to aspie. This is a pretty normal thing for us.

Interesting. I’ve always tried explaining my sensitivity to family and they never took it seriously. Out of everything I’ve read about autism, over sensitivity problems was the one thing I didn’t really relate to, but most of what I've read was about sound or light. I guess I need to do more research.

Most NTs would suffer from really intense heat, so I don't think it's an Aspie thing.

Some Aspies are particularly sensitive to kinds of touch, smells and/or tastes too. (I can't stand sounds and wear earplugs a lot of the time in public.) But I'm not sure one should go looking for symptoms just because one thinks they should be there.

I'm not looking for symptoms, just trying to find an explanation for the things I struggle with.

My 2 cents... I probably have AS, pending final diagnosis.

I dislike too much heat in enclosed spaces: at home, on a bus, in a car, where there is little or no airflow. Being on an overheated bus will add significantly to my anxiety and discomfort and might accelerate a sensory overload. However, I prefer hot weather over cold, and I mean I'd take 100F over 30F any time, but mean, open space.

I don't have that issue with hairdriers. A hairdrier doesn't bother me, as long as I am the one handling it: I dislike being touched by others, in particular on my head and face (I shave my head myself) and someone using hairdrier on me would count as "touching". However, space heaters (blowers) do bother me any time, in particular if they smell strange.

The thing is I see people outside all the time walking and doing whatever people do, but as soon as I step outside I feel like my skin is burning, even with sunblock, and it seems harder to breathe that hot air. I guess that's why my mom calls me a vampire.

Oh god my family never took it seriously either. They called me a vampire and told me I should stop complaining. But it really isnt that simple. I cant do it, it kills me. I get sick and I can never understand how people are able to walk outside in the heat.

I have never cared for the heat and I'm from the Southwest. But I especially dislike the humidity and heat that's common where I live in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US. I'm planning on moving to a place where the summers are cooler.

I know what you're talking about! :P Dont get me wrong, I dont think I'm as sensitive as you, but I do feel like I cant breathe very well in heat! And I do feel quite lethargic in heat. And also on top of this though I can also get the same way with stagnant air - I feel like I ant breath in i'v been inside in a stuffed up room for ages :/ I need fresh air!!
