I have a real problem with dry scalp and dandruff. It can be so embarrassing, especially if I wear a dark suit and it shows up so badly on the shoulders. It is all over my pillow in the mornings and if I scratch my scalp vigorously it goes everywhere like a snowstorm.
Is this a more common problem autistics such like myself which could be theoretically caused by metabolic dysfunction etc or the body aborbing fatty acids.
I also found a very interesting link here if it may be of some assistance.

I have no dandruff, but I have painfully dry skin all over my body. Often I will wake up in the middle of night due to pain from my dry hands or feet. They get so dry that it becomes very painful and wakes me up. I can't go back to sleep until I have moisturized them.

I stim by scratching my head, and sometimes this really damages my scalp :(

Paulsinnerchild - could you try posting the link again? I can't get it to work.

dry skin can be related to skin allergies, which is common with autistics. Also, remember that there is a weather change going on-depending on where in the world you are. Your body can be adjusting the change.
My scalp takes a long time to adjust to climate change and weirdly, I have the opposite reactions. When I'm faced with a dry climate, my hair gets oily and I have to still use "dry hair" products to keep my scalp balanced. It doesn't feel right at first, but that's what I have to do.

dandruff is caused by a form of yeast. make sure you're getting enough b vitamins, especially b6.

What Wiki says about Dandruff

Fungus is just one possible cause of dandruff. Season change is another, though for different reasons than I thought.

It can also be dermal psoriasis rather than dandruff which is a genetic disorder (thats my problem).

My skin problems are year round, every year. They do get worse in the winter, but that's because the moisture in the air is much lower in the winter. I do have two "diagnosed" skin conditions anyway, eczema and lichens simplex chronicus (though the latter is confined to just two small areas), so I'm sure that that contributes to the problem.
