What if one day, everyone with AS decided to form their own country, where they would be free to be themselves, to be obsessive, intelligent, quirky, everything it means to have AS? What would that country be like? Would it stand the test of time or collapse under a fragile economy? What kind of government/economic system would it have? And what would the rest of the world be like without all of us in it?

EDIT 11-11-11: I guess it could be a city instead, that way you wouldn't need a visa to see people there and it would be easier to see NTs other places ...not that it would happen anyway

No
Fraking
Way

edit: this question is asked every couple of week and I've said everything I have to say about it, but to sum up:

* There is no reason people would be more "logical" "fair" or "tolerant", in my experience autistics are just as intolerant towards other autistics, it's pretty easy to be tolerant over the netz though isn't it

* I don't see why we would necessarily be some sort of technocratic bureaucratic socialist planned government, and people who don't identify with these views seem to say this.

* This might be off topic but for every autistic whose a bright professor working in a field related to there special interest there is a failure who could never get there life on track.

Who would cut my cheese into perfect little cubes so I can eat it without melting down?

The world would be a dull and boring place, because everybody would be normal.

Well the AS country I'd probably hate it and not want to live there.

As far as the rest of the world if AS people left it, it'd probably be like this:

And if I wanted to visit an AS pal, would I have to get a passport? Or a visa? Sounds like a terrible idea!

There would be no-one for people to misunderstand and laugh at in the street (except for people with other misunderstood disabilities I suppose).

This has been brought up many times. I think it would make for an interesting social experiment. Not sure I'd live there, though. In all honesty, a lot of NTs aren't all that bad.

All of my family and friends are NTs, but I wouldn't leave them to go to a country full of Aspies who I don't know. I might not get on there either. I'm awkward where ever I go, whether I'm with NTs, Aspies, kids, other disabled people, hooligans, animals, ghosts, whatever.

I do not react well to other people's meltdowns. I would still stay locked up in my house avoiding people so why bother going to a new country to do what I can do in my original country. I suspect I would meet just as many as*holes in an all aspie country as I would in my original world. :P The only good that would come from it would be that I have an easier time to find people to play in my D&D game.

Could you please rephrase your subject line to reflect what your actual question is?

The topic reads, "What if everyone with AS disappeared?"

And the poll question reads, "Would you live in a country like that?" Which means, before reading the actual first post, you are asking us if we would live in a country where all Autistics had disappeared. Ergo, there are no Autistics there.

But your post is really about a country with nothing but Autistics. A tired old question asked WAAAAAAY too many times here. If I had known that was what you were really asking, I would never have even opened this thread.

could you please correct your subject line so we don't waste our time on this? Please?

Does not parse as a complete sentence.

truth15ful wrote:

There would be significant trouble in social situations - no one would know when to start or end a conversation, and interruptions with irrelevant data and opinions would be frequent, and one-sided conversations would be rampant, at least among those Aspies who are vocal. Everybody's routines would conflict with everybody else's, empathy would be almost unheard of, and each person's special interests would take precedence over those of everyone else's. It would likely be otherwise a very quiet environment.

truth15ful wrote:

It would likely not even have an economy, as commerce requires some form of negotiating skill and the ability to understand the subtleties of deal-making.

truth15ful wrote:

Not a democracy, as that requires debate and consensus. Not an anarchy, as that would require each citizen to be able to defend his or her own sovereignty. No ... it would most likely require oversight from an outside government - such as one would find in a retirement community.

Economic system? When most citizens would seem unable to hold down any job that requires interaction with others and being able to handle stress?

Much the same as it is now, only without us around to be picked on and marginalized.

Yeah, that ^^

Though there would still be plenty of people left to pick on and marginalize. It just wouldn't be us.

Come to think of it, you could remove everyone that has ever been picked on and marginalized, and they would just find someone else to do it to. Seems to be a requirement of NT Syndrome.

Sorry, I meant for people browsing this forum to see my post first, and then the poll. I forgot the poll is on top, because it's the other way around in the editor. But yes, I'll change the title.

So everyone who voted on the poll: Please re-vote if you thought I meant a country w/o AS people.

Forum software doesn't allow for revoting. Polls can't be edited either, once you've posted. I wouldn't bother anyway. The polls here aren't really all that useful. The posts themselves are more informative all by themselves.
