Does anyone here have schizoid personality disorder?
I used to think I had aspergers but now I am not sure.
I have noticed that schizoid disorder of childhood is included under asperger's syndrome in the ICD-10 F84.5

Hello there, my brother in law has paranoia schizophrenia, he is highly suspicious, scared of people, whereas I am neither afraid of, nor scared of people, just uncomfortable around people....I only have asperger traits.....

I wouldn't trust wiki for medical info. [Or self diagnosis of PD's. Do you have a shrink you can discuss it with?]

Hi Zarathustra, I see my psychiatrist on 9th jan 2008, last time I saw him he thought I had aspergers as I had social interaction problems as a child.
I have also been going to an aspergers support group for almost 2 years, I have met many aspies and they are all different.
I have also been prescribed prochlorperazine which helps with social anxiety and sleep problems, before my brain would keep me awake all night by thinking about things.

I was diagnosed with it before I got my Asperger diagnosis.

Schizoids do not have social anxiety problems. They merely do not want to hang around with people.

I actually went to my shrink because I thought I may be schizoid. He told me that schizoids do not care about hurting people's feelings (though they won't go out of their way to do so, but if forced they will). Also, from what I've seen/heard, they do not mind being dishonest/lying etc. Mind you, that is NOT to say that they are like sociopaths/anti-social personalities. There is a big difference. Schizoids don't break the law and get enjoyment out of hurting people or conning people out of money. They just will lie or break the law if it is the most convenient way of getting someone to leave them the hell alone.

I have all the schizoid traits except I have an annoyingly strong tendency towards attempting to be as honest as possible. Plus, I would never want to hurt anyone's feelings. But as far as the rest, yeah, I've always been an extreme loner. The only small bit of sociability I have is for a relationship (which isn't very schizoid). If/when my current relationship ends, I may end up looking for an Aspie, since you guys seem much more compatible. If I get married, I want my own room and a lot of space. I don't think many NTs would be cool with that!

my friend has just started up a 12 step group for people with schizoid personality disorder, she keeps getting me to join, I keep telling her to sod off I got a difference not a defect (slightly tongue in cheek)

I don't think I have a schizoid problem but I can be very moody at times. One minute up next minute down.

I don't fit the criteria for schizoid PD but I do fit the criteria for schizotypal PD-- however I also have obsessions and severe sensory issues which bumps me into the AS category at least somewhat.

Schizophrenia is not Schizoid Personality Disorder.

I feel like a schizoid , but I have nonverbal communication problems and intense interests , so I'm more of a solitary aspie.

True, but can also be true of autistics. More often than not true of autistics, in my experience--there's about a 50/30/20 split between "stable introvert; prefers to be alone and doesn't experience much social anxiety", "experiences social anxiety and may have social phobia", and "extroverted, active-but-odd, and very hard to embarrass" interaction styles.

I'm not diagnosed with anything but I have a lot of symptoms and test high for both that and asperger's.

yeah, there is a lot of overlap between this stuff. I am introverted, but not extreme enough to be a schizoid. I also have many moments were I was clueless about certain social situations (until they were pointed out to me.)
