I just had a revelation. I don't know what happened. I would never have admitted but I somehow went from being (embarrassingly so) a self-shaming secret aspie to wanting to integrate myself within the Autism community.

I don't know what changed... I think the grade school bullying made me ashamed of my awkwardness, but I've been watching lots of the Autism Talk TV episodes of these guys on here, and I'm like, I want to be like that. Shameless, confident, quirky and enjoying life while helping other people.

Tonight I was walking to the train and was wondering which of the people around me are autistic (who else does this?) I want to talk to them. I've never talked to another autie about what their experience has been like- at least, not in person. I want to be friends with you guys. Seriously. I want to join an Autism group in my area, while for so long I'd been resisting it. It's really kind of awesome, I may actually do it.

I feel really awesome, and I want to further understand the scope of autism. Even for someone who has it, I don't understand it nearly well enough.

Sorry, nerd rambling. But I'm really happy! Who else gets this excited about other aspies and auties? haha

I do because it is like you can talk and not have to translate into another language-its like you both get it!

I also get excited about others who are on the spectrum. That's why I spend most of my time on WP. I love autistic people. :)

I've never spoke about myself and my AS/ADHD openly before joining WP two days ago. I find it to be really liberating, I have realised two things 1) I have more AS traits than I thought (something that has been a shock) and 2) Inspite of the latter I'm actually OK and in quite good company. Cheers WP.

Something tells me this wasn't as sudden a change as you think it is. Maybe you're just becoming more aware of it.

I mean, you DO have over 500 posts here. There must have been some of this going on somewhere along the line of that many posts.

I'm happy for you. You might want to check in your area and see if there are any autism groups for you. Where I live we have a support group for our kids on the autism spectrum. We go to movies and stuff like that---a lot of fun. Being autistic myself, I enjoy meeting other autistic individuals. And this is why the WrongPlanet is so great in my opinion---a place for us autistic people to hang out.
