Have you ever tried directing a hyperactive child? I've had to babysit one and it was torture.
Medication + direction can lead to faster results. I only do creative writing when I medicate otherwise I wouldn't be able to last as long. Medicated I can write as long as the meds last and they drag out ever ounce of creativity from me I need to break the next day.
People with ADHD can be very creative but they need to organise and regulate their focus. Seeing as their brains find this difficult to do they need to take medication.
Just jumping into a creative task can make me exhausted quicker and it's done in say a halfarsed way compared to when I'm on medication. I have greater cognitive processing and concentration when on medication.
And you don't always have to be on medication at every moment of the day. Sometimes when I get sick of it I have some fruit that breaks up the medication quicker and I have my weekends off so my brain can go crazy with thoughts and inattention and mind changing and sitting at a computer wasting away the hours because I'm too unmotivated to do anything. I was going to attempt to draw today. That's when I reach for the Omega 3.
