I've sometimes heard people complain about boredom, or say that they hated school/work because the boredom made them want to explode. I can't say I really relate.

I am much more frustrated by too many things happening, overstimulation and too much interpersonal miscommunication. Plus, I seem to have much higher boredom threshold than other people. I usually find something interesting to think about. I sometimes deliberately bore myself as a way to unwind.

I never understood how one can be bored. Unless I feel really bad there is always something to do.

With wrong planet around, who could ever be bored? :D

But, in real life, there are times when I feel incredibly bored because I feel like I'm waiting for something exciting/significant that I expect to happen in the future, and everything else that I can do between "now" and that time in the future seems really boring in comparison. But, usually, I can find something to do.

For example, waiting 2 hours between my morning class and my afternoon class and I'm way too tired to focus on anything that requires at least a teaspoon of concentration, but yet I can't sleep away my tiredness in the school halls and I really can't go anywhere else. Result = Excruciating Boredom.

The only times I really do get bored is when im in a crowded situation. Otherwise my mind will just race off and entertain itself.

I can relate. I have not been bored once in 5 years. Always 6 more things on the "back burners" that I can bring to the fore.

Perhaps boredom is for people without avid interests, or who are wholly dependent on surrogate development / entertainment.

Arrgh, I HATE being bored! I'm very much aware that there's such a thing as too much excitement, but it depends on what kind of "excitement" it is. And the "city" I live in is very boring, the people living here are boring, and my home is boring. There are very few places I can go to or people I can talk to because I have no interest in them, or it's too far away and I can't drive and the bus system is awful and a cab costs too much. Most days I spend alone inside my apartment because there is simply nothing outside that interests me. I do have plenty of things in my home to keep me entertained but I don't always feel like doing them and I get stir-crazy. The most interesting thing I usually experience is once a week when my mother comes to visit and we go out for lunch together. I wish I lived in a city that had more interesting places like stores that sell stuff that match my unusual hobbies and interests, and career opportunities to help me use my art and talents to earn money so I don't have to rely on my parents, and people who's idea of a good time is NOT going to bars to get wasted and act like idiots. I want to live at a place where I can actually BE somebody, just by being ME...if there is such a place. :(

My mind tends to find ways to keep me from being bored.

I get bored, but during the week I don't mind. If I go too long without being bored, I eventually end up zoning out anyway.

I have the opposite problem, can't keep my mind quiet enough to do much more than sit still, staring at something without even seeing it. I lose a lot of time this way, when I could do something productive!

It's funny when I can just look at my past posts and find something from two months ago that I can quote today:

Quote:
Listlessness is my problem. It's like boredom, but worse. Boredom should never be a problem since you can do anything to cure it, even if you just get up and start doing jumping jacks. But with listlessness, you lose interest in everything, even your special interests. You can't focus on them even if you try. You just lay in bed staring at the TV, not even really watching what's on.

I used to get bored with school work because it was too easy and I got fed up with having to wait for everyone else to catch up. I don't mean that in an arrogant way, it's just that I had to take to spending a lot of time daydreaming whilst I waited because I always finished my work first and the teacher would never move on until everyone was finished. Even in classes where I was in the top sets (which were most of my classes) the teaching was very slow. I tended to prefer classes that let me work at my own speed. Oddly I had more fun with the NVQ1 that I did on a YTS scheme after leaving school simply because we could work through at our own pace (I completed my NVQ within 3 weeks then did a city and guilds in Information Technology in 4. Then I did some typing courses (I touch type). In the end they put me in their reception area because they ran out of courses for me to do lol and I was only signed up to be there for 6 months per course...I did them all in less than 3).

I got A grades for my GCSE's and was shocked on coming out of the exams because they seemed too easy. I got A grades at University.

I have a very low boredom threshold. I seem to need a lot of mental stimulation or things that challenge me, which I seem to find hard to find in every day life. That's why I went back to University to finish my degree (left the last one to look after family). I couldn't stand the boredom of not having a challenge any more :(

I often think I suffer more from chronic boredom than depression.

I get bored easily and a lot, and I really hate being bored. When I'm bored, I get restless, and then I get agitated and keep pacing from one room to another, and then start demanding and being annoying to others around me.

So, yes, I hate being bored.
