Do ASD 'professionals' read this forum?

Do ASD professionals - doctors, therapists, psychologists, researchers read this forum?

Is there an area for them? I would imagine they are mostly decent people who want to support. But how can anyone support diverse individuals, who may have verbal communication issues, if they haven't read substantial communication online from WP - a massive archive of diverse experience and opinion from written voices? I guess thats the point of the WP communications with professionals (conferences, journalism, etc.), but how does that self-advocacy get to the everyday doctors and therapists?

I presume it doesn't very often...

not nearly as often as you'd wish...
sometimes, some recearcher or college student gets on here with a survey of kinds, but i presume the 'real' professionals dont even realise sites like WP even exist; after all, autistics are non-verbal and hate any form of social contact, how can they share experiences then... [/sarcasm]

I doubt that they do come on here and that's why we need to be the ones spreading awareness instead of them.

I know my psychiatrist comes on here and looks at the forums sometimes.

Well, I'm studying to become a psychologist. But I'm diagnosed as well, so I don't know if that counts?

I don't think you can make a living solely from having AS without the intermediary of some related skills. Unless some nations give Social Security style money for that Dx. Sounds like a sweet job though.

How are professionals supposed to make money if things get better for us? Obviously there's more to it than that, but itbis worth pointing out.

Unless you're lucky to turn your obsession into a career and find an employer who will accept you for your knowledge and skills and respect your needs and limitations, or work for yourself. Although, I think that pretty bloody rare.

I'm a professional in the neurological field, but I'm also diagnosed with AS. Does that count?

I wonder if they really think like that. I had a chance to work at a funeral home, although I didn't want to, but I blew it with the "army of zombies" comment at the interview.

Well, my psychiatrist, who diagnosed me, told me about existence of Aspie communities. My diagnostic team is conscious that I studied the topic on my own, which is very logical conclusion, so I'm glad that they don't seem to be dumb like some psychologist and psychiatrist, who rely mainly on stereotypes.

My answer to your question is, therefore, "yes". I assume that if my professionals told me about it, they are curious enough to explore it.

My psychiatrist told me about Wrong Planet. I hadn't heard of it before then. I don't know if she looks at it herself.

Usually, this is along the lines of "Hey, kiddies! Would you like to have fun helping me out? All you have to do is take a fun, fun survey or tell me your life story! I will pay you with gratitude while I get paid with real money, college credits, or both! You'll be performing a great service that will benefit all of humanity and have lots of fun doing so!"

Rarely (if ever) does it happen that any of us are compensated for our contributions. Those professionals seem to come here to exploit us for their own benefit - nothing more.

Don't you think this is a little harsh? There are lots of students that are required to do some kind of research and that have no resources to "reward" answers or hire a company for a professional survey.
