Has anyone accomplished this yet? I feel like it is a never-ending, elusive process that you never quite manage to reach. For short bits of time you feel like you're moving along, only for something else to throw a wrench in the works and you go into damage control. Is that pretty much life, or do people ever reach a point where they're content and completely happy with where they're at? Seriously, is it more a chase-the-tail, never-going-to-get-there scenario or do people actually reach a point where they feel they've accomplished something reasonable?

If so, what exactly does that feel like?

It's a process for anyone, no matter their neurology.

It must be more of an evolutionary one that weeds out the misfits cause it seems completely unaccomplishable and entirely pointless when you look at from the outside.

I agree. Also, while it's nice to fall into periods of contentment, there's also the chance it can lead to its own form of stagnation

I think it's a back and forth constantly. If you ever reach a point where you're content and completely happy it doesn't mean you will stay there forever.

You never cease to struggle; on the other hand you are less bothered by struggling. Over time you become more grounded and confident; you learn what you and can't do and grow more willing to be your true self and live contentedly in your actual circumstances. You become more of an observer, less emotionally engaged, but nonetheless enjoying a splendid show. You get better at being happy.
