Hey I've diagnosed with Aspergers. From what I know about it is a developmental disorder which makes a person Unable to read body language, socialize, so empathy, and have sensory issues of some sort. But the thing is people often say I'm very empathetic, I can socialize just fine, people like me, I guess the only thing is I have intense interests on something or Have if at the most very minor issues socializing. So do I have it your not can someone on this forum please tell me I'm confused :?:

Welcome to the forum!

If you have been professionally diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, then you must have had at least some traits that were 'strong' enough to warrant a diagnosis - perhaps this wasn't regarding socialisation in particular (or perhaps s/he picked up on very small but noticeable traits that you may not be aware of?)
... Why not ask the person who diagnosed you?

I guess veryone is different though - and that goes for people with an autistic spectrum disorder. :)

What lead to you getting diagnosed? If yoou don't mind me asking :)

Could be a misdiagnosis. Did you once have aspie like symptoms cause it could be a possibility that you sorta outgrew aspergers. Now days, it seems that there is definitely a problem with all the diagnosing. Many misdiagnosis's as well as many aspies who can't get diagnosed.

Or it could be a perception thing. You may perceive yourself as socially competent but the doc saw something different.

You should speak to the person that diagnosed you.

About my perception, After the diagnosis and and researched AS, I asked people I know about whether or not I'm socially awkward. They said for the most part I can socialize with others just fine, The Doctor for the most part said I did to. I may of miss herd him because looking back all he said was I have traits of AS but not full blown Aspergers. ]

See I think in order to get a diagnosis, the symptoms need to significantly interfere with your life. If they don't then you should not be diagnosed.

If you simply have aspie like symptoms, thats not enough. Do you feel like your symptoms significantly interfere with your life.

Maybe he had aspie traits that were causing him significant impairments and Asperger's was a closest match for a diagnoses. Gray area I would assume. Maybe doctors should be allowed to diagnose "asperger trait" and other conditions like "(insert condition here) traits" but no that still won't give them the help they need so they have to make a real diagnoses by going by closest match.
