As a loner, they are also far less conspicuous as a pack of lions. This increases their chances of not getting their loot wrested.
Although i like all kinds of animals, there's one thing i hate abysmally about lions. When a male takes over a pack he is killing the cubs of the former leader to make sure he can impregnate the females asap. Incredibly, the lionesses just sit there and let him kill their cubs with a neck bite.
Lions constantly live with their pack except of young males which are chased away with the onset of sexual maturity and need to find a pack they can take over. Other wild cats, however, meet only to mate. The rest of the time they spend alone.
