This is a really sore subject with me because people often think I am having fun, when I'm not. And I think it is obvious I'm not having fun, but they don't get it, so I feel like there's some fundamental misunderstanding going on but I can't figure out what it is.

Or else people will think I SHOULD be having fun with something, just because they are having fun. And they will push me to do the things they like to do, and if they find out I don't enjoy those things too they assume there is something wrong with me, or act like I need to learn to have fun their way.

Another one is the saying, "if it's not fun, don't do it". Well where would that get me in life? A lot of tasks are not all that fun to do, in and of themselves, but getting them done makes the way for other things to be more fun and enjoyable.

Anyone else, do others misunderstand what is or is not fun for you?

I feel like fun is stupid, and stupid is fun. Sometimes when I'm having fun, people just think I'm completely stupid. Which I think is just stupid, because I'm just having fun.

Also, I don't know how old you are but some people use "fun" as a euphemism for sexual behaviour. Bear that in mind.

I am not talking about anything like that, and I am not that young.

I am talking about people believing their idea of fun is the same for everyone else and not understanding it when you don't enjoy the same thing they like to do.

I'm still trying to convince certain people that "Fun" is not a "Sin".

Or drinking the night away with others who also don't mind getting wasted.

What is 'fun' is variable from person to person. Every now and again someone seems to think that they know better than I do what I would enjoy. I usually ignore them.

I enjoy listening to rock n roll and spending time on WP. Another WP member might enjoy reading and listening to classical music. One man's floor is another men's ceiling. What's fun for one person isn't necessarily fun for another person. I think that's a good thing. WP would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same. :)

Person: "Why aren't you having fun doing x? x is so much fun!"
Me: "Actually, I don't really enjoy x."
Person: "That's insane! How could you not enjoy x? I enjoy it so much!"
Me: "Do I look like you?"

Depends on the situation, depends on the beer, depends on the pub, depends on the people.

Catholics and Christians.

I'm lucky that Christians from Southern Louisiana have traditionally embraced fun, otherwise the catholic celebration of Carnival (including Mardi Gras) would not exist as we know it today. King cake... mmmm.

most of the time when people think i should be having fun doing certain things it is rooted in sexism. its like "what!? you dont like shopping/clubbing/partying/practicing applying make up/planning future weddings? there is something wrong with you." its irritating too. people ask me if im interested in the same thing over and over and the answer is always no because they havent varied their question and then i get accused of being negative and rigid.

Ok here is an example of the kind of thing that happens:

Let's say I end up getting in a debate or argument with someone. I don't really like debates at all but what happens is they say something really illogical, or worse they say something about me that isn't true. I have to correct their faulty logic and state my case. The other person keeps coming back with even more stupid, illogical statements and I just continue stating my case. They don't understand anything I say, they just think it's funny. I don't, I just find it tiresome and annoying. But they enjoy it so they think I enjoy it too. They will even tell me, oh you must be having fun with this or else you wouldn't keep it going. But they miss the point that I'm not trying to keep it going, I'm trying to put it to rest.
