This may have been covered before, and if it has I apologize.

Does anyone have ringing in the ear?

So here's the situation: When I was really young I didn't have it, but as I got older the daily noises started to really get to me. And then one day I was being a kid and I got knocked in the head and ever since I've had this persistent ringing.

Now here's the cool part; Even though it's incredibly annoying, and occassionally drives me crazy, it's actually loud enough so that it blocks out most everything else and I can pay attention.

Does anyone else have this? It sounds like a broken computer monitor/tv. A really high pitch whine.

Yes, I have it. It has gotten worse due to my obsession with explosives...

I've dealt with it for more than half of my life.

I think it started when my parents brought me to an air show

It has come up before, but I can't quickly turn up the thread.

It did appear that tinnitus had a much higher-than-average incidence here than would be expected in the broader population.

I've had it in both ears for 20 years. The single note high-pitched variety.

I remember turning up just one doctor who seemed to have made the link:
Dr. Ali A. Danesh, in Florida.

Yep....I was never sure if it was "real" or something that everybody experienced but it just didnt "bother" them.....just like all my other "sensitivities" that my family told me were weird.
I dont notice that much except when the room is really quit and I am tring to get to sleep.I use "white noise" machine when I sleep to block out Apt noises but it doesnt block out this noise.

I think I will goggle it,now that I know its "real".

Yeah, I have a constant ringing in my ears, I've had it, or I've been aware of it since I was about 4 or 5 years old. It's a very high-pitched whine, almost exactly the same frequency as a TV, but not quite the same. And actually when I first noticed it I thought it was the TV, but when I went to check, the TV was off and I realized that it was all in my ears. I also realized that if I flexed certain muscles in my neck I could make the sound much louder and even block out other unwanted sounds, an ability which continues to serve me well. I suspect it stems from one of the many ear infections I had as a kid.

Over the past couple of years it seems to have been getting worse, but it doesn't seem to come with any loss of hearing. I can still hear things quite acutely, and on several occasions have been able to hear things quite clearly which others around me couldn't.

I have tinnitus in my right ear. I also have some hearing loss in that ear. I have no idea why. The tinnitus has bothered me since I was a kid, the hearing loss I've just become aware of when I got a new cell phone that I couldn't turn the volume loud enough, but if I switched ears, I could hear fine.

The sound of a ticking clock and the electricity in the walls is more of an annoyance to me these days than the ringing in my ear. I have a fan that I have to run at night to create white noise to block out other sounds.

Me too. High pitched whine in both ears. Usually don't notice it, unless the room is totally quiet, like going to sleep. Went to a doctor and he was more interested in the origin of my last name than diagnosing me! I have an air purifer next to my bed that produces lovely white noise so I can sleep.

Just another oddity we share.

I have ringing in my ears occassionally. I have a problem with getting too much earwax, which really sucks. I hate the whole ear draining thing..makes me feel like I've got shivers all over..ugh.

I used to get that quite a bit. When I was still growing. I'd say from ages 5 to 15. Don't anymore.

Um, I'm embarassed to ask, but can anyone here, hear their pulse in their ear? I used to get that constantly when I was very young. Everytime I went to bed and put one ear on my pillow, that's the ear I'd hear it in. It used to really scare me and eventually I just slept on my back and eventually rolled around in my sleep. I was to timid (no particular reason) to mention it to my mother/father and nothing was done. Eventually it went away.

But- its back! I'm 24! If its been mentioned before I haven't read it, and since it didn't bother me anymore I didn't do any research or even think about it. I just started experiencing it again very recently. I don't even know if it has a name or if I'm the only freak in the world who's body does this....?

I used to have frequent tinnitus but I also have Meniere's Disease. Mine seems to be related to allergies and, keeping them under control, my Meniere's symptoms haven't been a problem for years.

Oh, and I also hear my pulse when I'm trying to sleep. I think it's pretty normal.

I get a loud, high-pitched ringing in my right ear... Especially when everything is quiet!

And sometimes it really HURTS! Like someone is jabbing a needle into the ear canal... Anyone else get that feeling? Or maybe should I get it checked out? I really don't want to lose my hearing, as music is one of my "obsessions"... :?
