Were your parents in the spectrum?

I'm doing this to get more info about a genetic origin of asperger, is it always inherited? Does it suddenly appear out of NT bloodlines?

If you are not sure about some of your parents situation you can explain it in a post. You can also post about your kids situation, if you think they inherited aspergers from you or your parents.

im just figuring this stuff out for myself.... i haven't even figured how to bring it up to my parents...

they are both weird... so i wouldn't be surprised... and my granmother collected cat icons like no other, lol

but, i dunno. none are DXed or anything

I know most people in this board are not sure about their parent's status, but a "not sure" option would give me no info at all, I'd rather get wild guesses than no answers.

My mother, I'm sure, was an Aspie. I am also positive that I have at least three siblings on the spectrum. My mother would periodically retreat to her bedroom and lock the door when us kids got to be too much. As an adult, I finally understand why she did this. She also showed poor judgement with talking to and trusting strangers.

Sounds like she had too many children, I think aspie women suffer too much when raising more than two kids.

My story: my grandfather had aspergers, i don't know where he got it. My father inherited it, and then me and my brother got it too. Now my brother had two kids and they are both NT, so it seems to have stopped on his side of the family tree. I hope I have at least one aspie son, a true heir to my skills.

I can't really say. I've never met my father or anyone on his side of the family.

My father has ADHD, my mother is NT, and I think maybe my grandmother (my mother's side) is aspie.

All of my parents and grandparents are NT. Theres a chance that my uncle is on the spectrum though.

I think my father was, definitely, although he died many years ago, he had so many Aspie traits. If he were alive now, I would say to him 'I understand'.
One of my brothers has it too, but is in denial about it.

My dad has a few AS traits but he is severly dyslexic so maybe that could account for them.

I think it’s hard to tell (especially with grandparents), since AS traits often get better with age.

I was adopted so I don't know anything about my side of the family. I'm pretty aspie though. No developmental delays (speech, motor skills et al). My husband has a sketchy paternal line, but his maternal side shows a lot of neurological disorders.

Both of my parents are Nts but with some AS traits. i suspect my grandfather was an Aspie but i was too young when he died to be sure

My father is AS, his son (my half brother) and grand daughter are also AS. I was his first child born out of marriage and adopted. From what I know of the family I think AS is rife in it and I reckon that my paternal grandmother is the 'carrier' from the previous generation.

I've been diagnosed, but am in denial... but if I am, then probably both my parents are, and my sister shows moderate OCDish behavour.

Both my parents exhibit many signs of ASD and if they are not they are really close to it as are most of my siblings and a few other relatives too. Many of the things that go along with it were normal in my house I always thought it was everyone else that was different
