I went to see a Speech and Language Therapist and a psychiatrist last month at the recommendation of the Educational psychologist I saw last term at university. They were meant to write to me afterwards with their recommendations on what support I should get with my studying for next year at university so I don't fail it again. So I got the letter from them this week. Their recommendation is that I am referred to the Neurobehavioural clinic because they think I have Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

The reason I am shocked about this is because I was just expecting to get recommendation for a student mentor and extra time in exams. Also because I have never mentioned to anyone about suspecting I may have AS, I didn't think they would be looking for it. That means it must of been obvious to them when I thought I managed to hide it quite well. Now I wonder who else has noticed my crazy stuff too.

I haven't ever heard of a Neurobehavioural clinic before so I don't know what happens there. I am guessing that is the place you need to go for an autism/aspergers assessment? I haven't really looked into how that process works because I wasn't planning on asking to get assessed for it yet. I had planned to wait until I had finished university before inquiring about it because I have enough stress from that to worry about right now. That part has made me a bit angry because it feels like they are changing the plans I had made and I don't like it when people disrupt my plans like that. But I am trying not to let that bother me and think instead about how it will be good to know for definite if my suspicions are correct or not.

Why are you shocked?

You can not really hide something like this.

Accept yourself.

Good luck on getting a diagnosis.

It sounds like they've done what they said - assessed you on how best to support you next year at university.

With an AS diagnosis the university will have to help (by law, I think, but it sounds like they're quite willing anyway) - and if that means providing extra tutor time, and extra time for exams then you'll get it.

I am just shocked because I wasn't expecting to see that written in the letter. It was strange to see it written there under my name. I just kept staring at it, it felt quite weird.

I guess I have badly misunderstood what they meant when they said assessment for additional student support. They have looked at everything not just how i cope with studying?

It took me 38 years to work this out you are much younger and by the sounds of it much smarter.

Now you know for sure what hand life has dealt you accept it and play it as well as you can.

-I'm only 6 years younger than you. I don't know how smart you are but I am only kind of smart with maths stuff.

-I'm not totally sure what this means but I do always try to work hard at everything I do.

Dorfin what it means is you need to accept who you are and work from there.

I spent years blaming myself for not forming a relationship and not being good with people.

It tuns out I had Autism if I had of known I would have played to my strengths and not worried about my deficits.

You know from a much younger age work on what your good at and accept and like yourself.
