Hey everyone,

Does anyone of you ever get really interested and exited about the things he/she is deadly afraid of?
I am deadly afraid of open waters, ghosts, sleep paralysis, aliens, ufo's, nightmares, out of the body experiences but once my mind brings them up i go through intense moments of research and anxiety at the same time that almost always keeps me from sleeping and fuctioning normal, anyone else regularly having this happen?

Have a wonderful day :D

I'm terrified of water but love to read about what is in the deepest part of the ocean.

I'm terrified of dying and love to read about how bodies decompose.

It doesn't bother me after reading about it thouh. I just like to know about it. Makes it seem less harmful to me I suppose.

And does it make it seem less harmful? for me it usually just gets worse.

Well, I'm going to avoid the ocean and scuba diving, etc. It's just not as scary to me to know what's out there than what I might imagine.

I'm also going to avoid death as long as possible too, and there's nothing that makes that less harmful, but it makes it less of an unknown I suppose.

The known is less threatening to me than the unknown I suppose.

Exactly, that makes indeed sense.
As you might read in my signature i wanna avoid Death as well tho i'm not afraid of it. in some way nightmares and ghosts are the unknown and will always be so it's tough to really try to find the truth about it isn't it :P

I'm glad I'm not the only person who is like this! I love watching shows and doing research on things that scare me for some reason.

I'm scared of demonic possession but I love to read (allegedly true) stories about dolls or people being possessed.

I'm both disturbed by and utterly fascinated with the Uncanny Valley (click for explanation). Sometimes I actively scour the Internet trying to find pictures or videos labelled as Uncanny Valley material just to creep myself out.

I'm absolutely terrified of contracting diseases or parasites, but I enjoy watching shows like Untold Stories of the ER and Monsters Inside Me. Sometimes the shows bother me so much that I wind up with stomach cramps and hives, but I still like to watch them.

I'm terrified of the insides of a living organisms. I don't handle gore well at all.

When I was little, I'd check out a lot of science/medical books about the inner workings of human/animal bodies. Though fascinated, I was genuinely freaked out. I don't know what it is... just a strange phobia in relation to necrophobia I guess.

In 2009, I went to a museum full of preserved organs and dead people and animals, called "Bodies Revealed" or something...and I couldn't sleep without the lights and the TV on for months afterward.

Man that sounds so scary, it's pretty awful if you think about everything that's going on in your body at the moment, quite understandable.

Internal organs are one of my favorite things, I like knowing how things work underneath the skin.

Since my preteen years I've been terrified of tornadoes to the point of not being able to sleep when it's windy and thunderstormy. Better now, but I've also had a morbid obsession with storms and storm chasing since I was a kid.

The funny thing is, I used to like watching thunderstorms. I don't know what triggered the terrifying fear that started when I was 11 or so.

When I was a kid I was afraid of buses. Wouldn't ride on them, would panic and freak out if they came near me or if I needed to step on one.

As an adult I have a fear of large tires (like those on buses, fire trucks, garbage trucks, and other large vehicles), 1960's hearse style ambulances, steel hulled ships especially if they're rusty, going under bridges, old time medical movies, 1970's-1980's green medical scrubs, dead bodies (yet I'm utterly fascinated by them at the same time and in the context of an anatomy and physiology class I'm fine, just not if I had to embalm one or go to an open casket funeral). I know I have others that I'm trying to think of. Those are my biggest ones.

I was afraid of thunderstorms at one point when I was 6 years old. I've been a weather weeny ever since. I chase thunderstorms whenever I get the chance. I like driving to a nice wide open location and taking photos and/or filming.

I was also simultaneously afraid of and obsessed with loud music from the age of 3 or so. I think I was extremely sensitive to the emotional tension that some music caused in me. Later I came to like that tension and see it as a thrill. I like a lot of super dark brooding music.
