I haven't "connected" with someone for quite some time now. Yaknow that moment where a conversation becomes so exciting and joyful that you forget you exist and you can just open up without holding parts of yourself back.
So anyway I thought I'd just ask - when's the last time you had a really great conversation and what was it about?

Almost 2 years ago. A cool girl in the shop I volunteered in. I talk complete nonsense but enthusiastically and she was really quick witted and flirty, so the whole thing probably sounded like jibberish but it was very sparky and engaging. I miss that.

Before that it was with a kid; a girl about 10 who knew some really clever tricks.

Before that it was a Polish lesbian who was touring the world with her girlfriend; she kissed me out of the blue because she just decided I needed it, then we talked for an hour. I think she may have been autistic actually but because she was in love she was all glowy and pristine, all 'symptoms' disappeared, a perfectly realised angel.

I do this in my own head more than with others... is that strange? Maybe it's a coping mechanism.

On the few occasions I have been in company like this, I always feel a social pressure in the back of my mind to keep the conversation interesting. It takes the joy out of it.

My favorite conversations have been at 2 am, when everyone is blissfully exhausted and nothing anyone says makes much sense, nor does it matter. No social pressure, just the freedom to enjoy the company of others.

Just a couple of weeks ago, at a cast party for the play we just closed. One guy I've done some work with a couple of times made it a point to thank me for recommending him to the director, and we spent about half an hour just talking about acting, shows and desires as a performer. Hadn't had a good solid conversation like that with someone I'm not very close to in a long time.
