I HATE being late and yell at and castigate myself for it. Even when it is relt inconsequential, if I plan to leave at 10:00 and leave at 10:15 I am most upset. Yet, I seem to have trouble with them. I can't estimate how long it will take me to get ready unless I can rely on a well honed routine and even then there might be problems like taking slightly longer than planned in the toilet, etc.

Is this common with AS? How do you deal with it?

I have hte exact opposite problem. I have no internal sense of time. I cannot estimate how long something will take, I have no sense of how much time I spend doing things. I am routinely late and it has been suggested that I will be late to my own funeral. I also do not understand why people are so wrapped up about this issue.

When you have a scheduled meeting or an appointment I understand how rude it can be to waste someone elses time but barring that I don't understand the slavishness to 'being on time'.

I'm the exact same way. I've very little concept of how long things take to do, so I'm usually late. For example, I think it only takes me 15 minutes to get ready when it really takes 25 minutes. Or I am ready to go early and suddenly decide I need to do something obscure, like dust. So I'll start dusting the house, then I'll notice something else that needs to be done, and I'll think that I have time to do it, so I will. Then, next thing I know, I'm 10 minutes late.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

I told myself I'd go to bed 5 hours ago.

Other than the issue of impacting others with my lateness - and with really really important stuff I tend to not be too late - the thing that irritates me is failing to follow my plan. If I fail to follow my plan it means I did something wrong. If I did something wrong even though I knew what I was supposed to do, I must be stupid

I am so concerned about being late that I always end up being ready way too early. So I just leave the house anyway but take a book or something else to do, and find somewhere quiet to sit very nearby where I am going, if it's not an office with a waiting room, in which case I sit in the waiting room.

This! I despise being late, so I may sit there for an hour or so, just so I know I'm not late. I just about go into panic attack if I'm late to something important, appointments and what not.

I don't like being late, but I have no internal sense of time. I need to find a better alarm system than my phone. It only has 2 alarms. My major time limited event is getting my daughter to school on time. I have an alarm set for getting up and for time to leave. The time to leave alarm has about 10 minutes of extra time built in for such things as balky kid, can't find something, or traffic. I could use a bed time alarm as well. Oh crap...it's 10pm and the kid isn't in bed. Oops.

And yeah, I'd rather be early than late.
