My mother died of arrhythmia of the heart at age 54; one of the chambers of her heart stopped functioning properly. My father was diagnosed last year with a very rare form of blood cancer ( myeloma) which he's currently undergoing treatment for. He's 63 now. With that record, what are the chances that I will still be able to live a nice, long, healthy life?

You should really go and speak to your doctor about this. He or she may run some tests and/or give you advice about your own health.

Yeah, I actually have to get a family physician soon enough; I've been hitting up several websites where I can ask doctors, but of course half the links don't work.

I'll figure something out.

Go ask your doctor. Also, we'd need more of your family medical history, I think. If all of your parents' parents, etc. etc. etc., lived into their 90's, I'd still say you have good chances. Ask your doctor.

Well, my mom's parents...my grandpa died in his late '60s/early '70s I believe, and my grandma just died last year in her late '80s.

As for my dad's parents....he was adopted. His real mother was chronically ill her entire life, though he hasn't been. Her parents were even in worse shape in regards to health. His real father...we don't currently know who that even was.

Do your other family members have the same conditions? Esp.the blood cancer.
