I've just noticed lately that my inadeptness at social situations keeps seeming to result in misunderstanding, people getting mad at me, and me getting into trouble. I frequent a lot of online forums, and I seem to keep breaking the rules of the forums without meaning to. I forget to do things on a day to day basis, and it makes those around me wonder if I'm really trying, and I really AM. It is hard when you're missing the instruction guide to life. Wrong Planet indeed. :(

Once I was walking to the store and ran afoul of a cop who thought my lack of eye contact was a sign of avoidance. I stagger when I walk my balance is bad. A cop saw me staggering on the sidewalk so he figured I was either drunk or on drugs so he pulled over then called me over to his car. He asked me if I had been drinking so I said no then he tried to look at my pupils but I was avoiding eye contact. This pissed him off so he tried to hit me with the door of his car he jumped out the car then grabbed me by the arm so I said " I am autistic." Luckily this calmed him down. He began explaining that he wanted me to move to the front of his car so he can see my pupils dialate in his headlights. He asked me why I was staggering so I told him my high blood pressure makes me dizzy. He told me to be careful and left. 8O

Every single day. I could write a short book about my run-ins with suspicious police. Thankfully I've only been arrested once. (Which was total BS, but it had nothing to do with AS.)

Going by your picture, I'm guessing you wouldn't even think of trying professional wrestling; it's obviously not for you. Is it not the same with social situations? About the only time I post in groups is in political discussions where a bit of confrontation, though not rudeness, is appropriate.

Here everything should be fine.

I have other interests and I like discussing them, internet forums seem to be the best place to do that, since you can reach so many people around the world instead of just a handful of people you know locally. I generally enjoy being on such forums, and I get a lot out of them, but sometimes people can be so judgemental or stuck up about their interests or areas of expertise, and that does bother me. What I'm complaining of here though is people who look down on me simply because I ask a question they think I should know the answer to, or I accidentally break a rule because I forget or get one forum mixed up with another.

I wear hoodies as a security blanket, and some places don't like it when you wear hoods, and sometimes I'm told to take my hood off.

Good point. It's a matter of using our strengths. I get told by two groups I'm in that I can be annoying at times. I'm also told the reason they accept me is because--well--let's just say I'm a bit more discerning and well-read than other people:) They are aware I have AS.

Still there are some who can't deal with me, though they have a way of returning when they realize what I have to offer them. I don't take it personally when others can't deal with me. It would be more than a little hypocritical for me to hold other people's social deficits against them.
