I use a blue tooth, i call chat lines, i notice when there is an echo i can hear myself talk, whatever i say is repeated back to me and something happens in my mind where i feel that i can talk since i hearmyself the way i sound and whats being said, its like i can see my thoughts by me hearing them and i in turn have a slightly better conversation, some scientists say autism is a synaps disorder, but the genes needed to by NT are switched off in the mind and they can be turned on, maybe being able to see your social thoughts as hearing them repeated back to you, you will be able to learn to socialize better.

get back to me ppl with money who can make this happen. The idea is like a device that looks like a bluetooth that repeats everything you say back into your ear one second later.

I get almost exactly the opposite effect. If there is an echo on the line or even worse a variable delay like Skype, it completely messes up my timing. If the delay is bad I find it virtually impossible to have a conversation.

I don't socialize because I feel like I'd be trespassing at a gathering. I'd be standing there thinking, "Why am I here wasting time? I don't belong with these people." Does this have anything to do with being able to see my social thoughts?

I hate phones for several reasons.. But it's worse then there's an echo because I get even more confused and disoriented. I haven't heard the gene theory you talk about, only he fact that our brain is wired and structured differently, there are parts of our brain that are shorter or more narrow or something and things get misfired and such because of it.

Definitely, though, if it works for you keep using it!

I am the opposite as well. If I hear myself echoing back, I have a real hard time even continuing to speak.

Recording and playing back speech is already a technique used by speech therapists. It's a way to analyze how you sound and how you communicate. Sometimes they use videos too. Some people are too self-conscious for it to be useful for them, but most people evidently get used to it eventually.

The short delay would confuse me, too. I wouldn't benefit from it. But--if it helps you, there's no reason not to use it yourself. It's probably quite possible to rig something up with a microphone and headset.

I saw a dateline (or some other similar show) where it was used with people who had a stutter, made it so that their stutter was gone.

This is a relevant device. Has a reaction converse to that hypothesised by OP. Apparently.

They just use tape recorders. Or digital recorders nowadays, I guess.
