I don't think liking pop or hiphop has any form of diagnostic significance when it comes to Asperger's.

That said, I strongly dislike both.

I have a strong dislike for the kind of rap music that's currently popular, but I'm into good, intelligently written rap, which for some reason is always underground or sort of niche.
Pop music, as in popular music (rap or otherwise), tends to not be my cup of tea. Not because it's popular, but because for some reason the vast majority of people are completely fine with listening to the kind of generic sludge that the spineless major record labels dare to place their bets on. Which is exactly the kind of generic sludge I find completely uninteresting.
But I don't limit my taste by genre. I limit it by originality and content. I'd much rather listen to the rapper Busdriver than the band Coldplay, but I'd much rather listen to the band Oingo Boingo than the rapper Soulja Boy, for example.

I love both pop and rap and am professionally diagnosed, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. In my case, the irony is that I can't keep a rhythm and hate to dance, but love strong beat dance music; I think it takes a more pronounced beat to register with me at all.

There is no rule that an Aspie can't like pop music or hip hop.

Personally, I like classical music and metal.

This.

TBH, I liked pop music when I was younger, but I've gradually grown out of it. In practice I hate most of today's pop music to the extent when they are played in malls I feel angry.

Here's my extended comment on rap:

That said, there's no unified "aspie music genre". That would be silly.

"The metal! It comes from Hell!"

Anywho, I like a lot of different music. Classic jazz, classical, world music, metal etc.

But my biggest love is for Cerebral Electronica and German Industrial Techno.

I don't think that AS should have anything to do with musical preferences.

It's the sole taste of the affected individual.

That being said, I'm for anything that doesn't sound auto-tuned. (Which, sadly, most of today's pop and hip hop music is.)

I'm sure an aspie somewhere likes pop.

That being said, I like most music, but I abhor most pop, hip-hop, and rap, with some exceptions. Rock is my overall favorite genre.
