i once read some symptoms of AS in children, and one was hot ears/head, but i can find no other mentions of this online, and wonder how widespread it is, and how it can possibly relate.

my ears used to GLOW red ,and you could feel the heat coming off them inches away, especially at night. id also have great trouble sleeping and would turn the pillow over to get a cool side, then ten minutes later switch it back over, only to have the first side still warm. it was REALLY bad.i grew out of it by about by about 12. someone else i know with an AS brother said he had the same thing.

so- anyone else get this? any idea what freak cause is making our heads overheat this weirdly???

I have the same again recently. Not at night as often but I have it in the mornings. I think it could be related to anxiety and the "fight-or-flight" response system which directs more bloodflow to the brain. If I notice my head and ears being warm to the touch it gets even worse. Sometimes I end up with a panic attack. Afterwards it goes away. I think it should be documented on zhe interweb in the anxiety disorder section. I remember reading it. Not sure where.

w/t- sorry to hear that- that sounds a total pain!

i didnt have any corrolation between it and anxiety, though. and in fact id consider it to be the opposite, from my experiance- that i was generally *more* relaxed when it happened.

Well in any case recognize the hotness. It might be just me that gets anxious from the fact that I think something is "not normal".

something on the topic is here http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=573359. But it could be totally unrelated.

I had really hot ears, as a child. My mum would always comment on how hot my ears were.

Instead of creating a new thread, I found this...

At twenty-three years old I still get hot red ears nearly every day. It only happens in the late afternoon or the evening and doctors have never been able to explain it. Very annoying. One ear most of the time, sometimes both... Does anyone know how to counter it?

My autistic girlfriend would put a wet dish towel on her face, the back of the neck works very well too

i dunno about hot ears but ive always turned my pillar over and over and turned in bed a lot to find the cool spots. I also can't sleep in a room without the window being open.

i have gotten hot ears and head since childhood

wash with cold water is all i have ever done

on the other topic timewaster referenced, in bed i have coolness issues as well. i have to make sure my sheets have enough cotton in them to maintain coolness and can't really use artificial fibre bedclothes - even with a fibrefill type comforter with a cotton or bamboo shell i have to have a thick enough layer of cotton between it and me or the heat is wrong - i usually use a cotton thermal blanket

my pillows are constantly soaked and i have to flip them all the time to keep them cool enough - i even have multiple pillows to keep coolness available

i recently bought a $90 gel filled pillow and it kicks ass totally for support, comfort , and temperature

i wish i'd spent the money years ago

My ears blush more then my face. One of my brothers noticed that when he made me mad, my ears would turn red
