I loved him so much and I'm devastated.

He had inflamed bladder lining that was causing obstructed urethra, which is life threatening.
I had him unobstructed twice in the past week, and I wanted so badly to be able to fix him. The doc said his outlook for getting past this was not good and that I should prevent further suffering. I let the vet put him down earlier today.
I still can't believe I let this happen. I don't want to. I feel like I have failed him.
I did everything I could to make sure his last couple of hours was as good as possible.
I wanted him to feel the love I have for him.
I miss him so much.

I'm so sorry  losing pets is terrible. I know he was very lucky to have you looking after him, and even though it hurts now, you can take comfort in the knowledge that he's not suffering any more. Take care of yourself

Very sorry to hear that. In his own cat way, I'm sure he knew you loved him.
Hope that time will heal.

You have another cat that was friends with him. I have two cats as well. If one of them died, the other one would probably be devastated. I hope that is not the case for yours. :|

Hi Olympiadis,

I am so sorry for your loss :(
I won't tell you to stop beating yourself up because, as cat (or any animal) lovers, it's what we do.
But as i went through the losing my little Phoebe 3 months ago, i know that these type of thoughts are inevitable. It seems to me you have done the very best for your Mac, given the situation and you had no control over his illness. You had already had to take him to the vet twice in one week, and it wouldn't have been fair to keep doing that, so you did the right thing for your little man. Animals are wiser than we think and he would know that. He was very lucky to have you and i believe our pets never leave us, they are waiting for us! Google 'rainbow bridge', i found that really helps when i am really down.
It will get easier, and please go easy on yourself.

Fellow animal lover.

Im sorry that Mac is gone, and I know you will miss his companionship, you gave him a good comfortable home and a stable life, which is a wonderful thing to do; he was suffering and you made the most difficult yet most compassionate decision.

I have pets that I love, when I make the same decision, it will feel like a betrayal, but really it wont be, because I will be making the choice to limit the pain they experience, instead of prolonging it for my own reasons.

((Hugs))

Thank you all for the kind words. I just buried his body.
It was so incredibly hard.
If you pray, then please pray for his sweet soul. He deserves any nice thoughts and words you can give him.
Thank you.
   Mac.

Hope the burial will give you a bit of closure, even though it must have been hard to do.

I saw the pictures of him that you posted before, he looks like my kitten who died of a lung problem a few years ago.

Is his friend your cat as well?

It was incredibly hard.
His friend (the grey dilute tortie) was another special needs kitty who was rear-paralyzed from birth, named Willa. They were best friends for a couple of years, but were separated in March 2014.

Such a beautiful cat.

Garrison Keillor has written (at least) two poems about losing cats. When I read them I feel the sadness of losing my cats (haven't lost any recently) and also very understood, even though the poems are obviously about a different cat and different circumstances.

and

These poems are painful to read, but they really helped me with my cat-loss grief.

In his own kitty way, I'm sure Mac knew you cared for him, they have a sense for that. It's hard to accept sometimes that you haven't failed, but it doesn't sound like you did. It sounds like you took good care of him and gave him a comfortable life for as long as you could with whatever was in your power. In the pic, he looks a satisfied cat, secure and content.

You have my best wishes olympiadis. I can not begin to imagine how you are currently feeling. I wish for you to take at least some comfort in knowing you did not let Mac die from ailment. I'm certain you tried your the best you could have done to save your friend. Good luck with getting passed the turmoil. I'm sure you have the full support of this fantastic community.
