I have an appointment next week.

I haven't been on meds for years, but all of the ADHD diagnoses will be in my file ant the doctor already knows that's what I'm coming for.

So, I'll be asking about meds for ADHD but I am NOT going back on stimulants ( I'll leave the stimulant debate up to you all if one is started, but I personally prefer not to put them in my body on a regular basis).

Staterra scares me a bit because it's so close to Effexor and I had some awful experiences with this.

Also, I wonder what kind of effect it will have on since I'm not depressed. There is such thing as Serotonin Syndrome, and I think I had signs of it before with Effexor, which I also wasn't truly depressed before going on, but was having terrible anxiety.

So, how does it work for Aspies, who can speak from experience?

Because I will be medicated or ADHD and I'm not even going to say anything about AS to the doc, but I have more traits of AS...is thins going to make me even more obsessive? Possibly worsen sensory issues? Just make me crazy in general? Effexor did...I thought I was normal but afterward I realized I'd been really out there the whole time I was taking it.

Thanks.

I have been on Straterra for a few years now, and overall I believe it has helped me concentrate. The medication is alittle hard for your stomache and digestive system, in that my foster sister could not take it because it made her feel sick. I'm more quiet when I'm on meds, and I've found that when I don't take them I have alot of energy. Before I took meds I did not believe I was a really hyper child, but on days I miss taking it (usually the weekend at my moms) my limbs feel like they need to move and there is an annoying agitated, restless feeling. The positive aspects about Straterra, for me, are that I can concentrate more, remember things, be more efficient, get things done, and do what needs to be done. But that's just me. :)

I was on Staterra for a while & it had a paradoxical affect on me. I had a harder time concentrating & was zoning out more. I had side-effects of feeling tired & my eyes were twitching when I was on it. I was on 4 other psych meds at the time thou(anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, mood stabilizer, & a benzodiazepine) so it may of been the combination of the other meds with it

I was on Straterra for the first few weeks of my freshman year of high school. But I got off them because the meds caused me to frequently act out at school. So if you have to be on meds for ADHD, make sure you stay the heck away from Straterra.

I went off of my Vyvanse awhile back because I thought I didn't need it...went an entire semester of college like that...let's just say it didn't go well. So I started up Strattera (80 MG) a few weeks ago. Good lord, this thing is great, I'm much more motivated, I can think clearer, and I can focus a lot more on what my main thought process is (for better or worse). I didn't seem to react much to vyvanse and the like this strongly and I've tried just about everything (save for adderall, but stimulants are bad for my already high blood pressure).

In short though, it worked for me, some nice effects, of course not everything works the same for everyone, but that's my two cents.

i took it for about a year, until group death stopped covering it. it made me feel more like "normal," like i had maybe 20 points more IQ, and it enabled me to be more clear-thinking and calm. but it made my GERD worse- despite that, i would still be taking it if i could, as it was the only stimulant i found that didn't turn off my hydraulics.
