Had my neuropsych testing today
I had a 45 min interview with the psychologist who interprets the tests and writes the report. Then she explained what testing I would do with the other person who is trained to administer and score the tests.
I'll probably leave some tests out because there were so many
digit span forwards and backwards--I have no clue how I did on that
trail making tests a and b--I think my time on a was good but b seemed to take a really long time. I had to keep saying the alphabet over and over again while counting.
finger tapping test--my numbers were REALLY low but consistent through all the trials. Average of 22 for right hand and 19 for left, which places me in about the 10th percentile. According to the stuff I read tonight typical the non dominant hand is normally 10% fewer taps than the dominant hand so I fit that almost perfectly.
the test where they give you a letter and you say as many things as you can that start with that letter in 1 minute---that was a hard one for me, there were lots of pauses and most of my responses were animals, overall I had a low number of responses. She did this with 3 different letters.
There was a peg test--the pegs had a groove on them and the holes on the board had the groove in different spots on each hole. You can't use your other hand at all to help, so I tucked the hand not in use under the table. You can only do the rows left to right, I messed up on that a few times. Both hands are tested. I'm not sure of my time on that one but I'm thinking it's probably slow since every other test for speed I've ever taken has been slow.
There was the short story test where she read a paragraph with lots of details and she asked me about what I remembered right after she read it then again 30 minutes later. There were 2 different stories. My immediate recall and my 30 minute recall were about the same. My answers were quite short and not much detail. No surprise there considering I know I don't retain verbal information well.
There was some figures I had to draw immediately after I saw the card then 30 minutes later. I think I did pretty well on this. At the 30 minute recall I had no trouble remembering figures 1, 3 and 4, but figure 2 I didn't remember a thing until she prompted me by drawing a square, then I was able to remembered it perfectly.
There was a test where there were 3 simple shapes (two lines and a C) and I had to come up with as many combinations of those shapes as possible in the boxes on the sheet of paper, all the shapes could be flipped in any direction I chose. I didn't even get half the boxes filled in the time allowed. There were lots of pauses after I did a few. The test was repeated with 4 shapes and I got similar results. If they were looking for the size of the shapes to be the same as the ones printed on the paper then I did horribly, especially on the second test.
There were a bunch of mazes in increasing degrees of difficulty. Once I put the pencil on the paper I couldn't lift it of at all until I finished or hid a dead end, so to look at the maze I had to twist my arm around and twist the rest of my body to see where I should go next. I wasn't supposed to touch any of the sides but it happened anyhow and if I came to a dead end I got the same maze again and started from the beginning.
There was the Stroop test and several others similar to it. My speech did not have a regular rhythm, it was quite choppy, and I only got one column and part of the second column read in the allotted time on all versions.
There was the Wisconsin Card Sorting test--I did pretty good on that. I am usually pretty good at figuring out patterns and there were only 3 possible pattern choices so it was easy to figure out.
I'm sure there were others, some of them were really short. Some of the above were part of the WAIS-IV, they didn't do the whole thing, just the parts that were pertinent.
Then I had a lunch break and then I took the MMPI-2. I had taken it a few years ago but she said it's more of a snapshot of how you are doing now. The psychologist said that a lot of times she lets people take it home and mail it in, but she wouldn't let me do that because of my disorganization and my ability to lose lots of stuff. Taking the test triggered some things I forgot to tell the psychologist so I took out a piece of paper and wrote down a word or two to expand on after the test. I asked the person who did the testing to give it to her.
I'll be getting a copy of the report in a week or two. I have an appointment March 21st to go over the results with my psychiatrist. The psychologist said I could make an appointment with her if I wanted additional explanation. I like how I'll be getting the report before my appointment on March 21st because I'll be able to read it, research things and have questions prepared. My therapist and GP will also be getting copies of the report.
I'm sure it will also be useful for my SSDI case review due next year.

I wonder if the tests are the same in every state. You gave the most detailed description of what testing is like as far as I have seen on WP.
I would like to be tested at some point.
What is the MMPI-2? That was the only part I didn't fully understand in your post.
Edited to add : I am not sure if they would give me a test like that. I have a bad learning disability and am not strong in lots of those areas. How do they figure Aspergers for someone with an obvious learning impairment? Not sure if I would be so easy to test.

Google search MMPI-2 for a good explanation of what it is.
You'd have to consult with a psychologist for your complex situation. You may end up having more testing.

I found it and understand it now. That might wrack my nerves. I'd be afraid of a misdiagnosis!

Apparently I am very antisocial nooooo Reallyyyyy???
I also have a bit of an issue with self consciousness . But if I'm an aspiegirl I can understand that . A lot of AspieGirls are due to the many pressures of what society believes we should be.
It also said a bit of hypochondria but I have a bad reproductive system and spinal damage to a degree which I cannot afford help for so naturally one would worry.
I can safely say I am not crazy! Whew.

Your "hypochondria" is why the MMPI-2 has to be interpreted in context of a persons situation. You have things that are easily verified so the elevated hypochondria index wouldn't be of concern when interpreting the test.

That hypochondria thing really bothered me. If I check true for things I actually experience it makes me a hypochondriac? I mean seriously... 'I always get headaches in bright light' "true" ..... T = 95 you're a hypochondriac.
