Hi, my name is Megan. I'm 23 yrs old, and I'm going for an Autism screening next Monday. I have been searching online to see what I might expect during an Autism screening, but I can only find information on the process for children. The doctor I'm visiting normally screens children, but I am assuming he will have a different method for an adult. I understand that each doctor is different, but can anyone tell me what might happen during my visit? It's driving me nuts not knowing, and I'm fairly nervous about the whole thing...!

You will be asked a bunch of questions. You will say if you have felt that way never, recently, or when you were younger and you answer to the best of your abilities. I am guessing they watch how you act visually as well, but I am not positive about that. They will most likely get back to you later with the results. Take your time to answer the questions as I know I tend to say the first thing that comes in to my head a lot and in a test like this, you want to make sure you give the answer that is the most true about you.

I myself went through the process as a child; however I find the lack of resources for adults with Autism annoying, nonetheless. The sad thing is most people don't think about adults with Autism, just children. I know some people go to multiple psychs. I wish you luck with your screening; wish I could give you more advice but I don't have much to give.

I hope you feel welcome here.

Just curious - what do you think you have? Where do you think you stand on the Autism spectrum?

Thank you both, I appreciate the info. I already feel welcome! :)

I believe I may have PDD or a mild form of Asperger's syndrome, forgive me if I use the terms wrong, i'm learning a lot right now! I really relate to the symptoms listed for female children with Asperger's syndrome, but I do feel as though I have overcome some things I had trouble with as a child. I was very determined to fit in, I tried very hard :)

I am excited to discuss it all with a professional and get his opinion!

Hi Megan

You may be asked a lot of questions you weren't expected, to screen for other disorders and personality traits. You may learn something about yourself!
