I'm unbelieveably awful with managing money, I spend money like it is going out of style. Also I have a habit of getting myself into debt a lot.

I am currently paying off AUD210 a month in debt. After paying board to my dad, the income I recevie from my disability pension after paying board to my dad is AUD1076 a month.

I do not have a lot to show for this level of spending, I often sell off stuff I bought when I find myself short of cash.

My finances are improving although, it is going to take some time.

I'm wondering if anybody else has the same problem.

Yup, same here. Fortunately my wife's cool with handling the finances.

If I had a major source of money, I imagine I'd be tight with it on some days, and free with it on others.

Like I am now with the little money I do have.

I used to be like this until about ten years ago when I decided it was too stressful to worry about being broke all the time and having problems paying for necessities like fuel bills and food. So I worked out a very detailed budget, writing down all my outgoings; gas, electric, water, insurance etc. over the year, dividing it by 12 to get a monthly total, putting that much away each month and what is left over is for spending.
It was really boring doing it but worth it not to worry.
Oh, and I cut up my credit card so I wasn't tempted to use it. That helped a lot.

This would not be me. My checkbook is always balanced to the penny and I keep spreadsheets that chart every expenditure. I can track exactly where my income goes and always know how much disposable income I have left in any given month.

i work on guesstimation.

i can make my dollar stretch, but i guess it's cos i don't need to pay rent/utilities (live with my parents)

i hardly go out, and i don't find a real -need- to get stuff, my bead/knit obsessions are slowing down so i have stopped hoarding beads/wool for a while now.

i would say i'm bad with money in that i don't really know what to do with what i have (not much) to make it grow, and the only way i know how to get any is to work. and it's hard for me to stay with a job...

Gronk!

Somehow my money always disappears on me, frittering it away on stuff that I don't even remember. A lot of it doesn't even look possible. It's an anomaly when I have more than $500 USD in the bank. Usually that means a big check came from somewhere.

When I had a job making min. wage....(most of my life)I could get by on itDumbster diving helped as did hating movies,bars,resturants,etc....When I was making 14.oo an hour(the most I have ever made)I spent it just as fast....I dont know how,but I managed.Seems like as soon as I get enough saved up,the car needs work or my teeth do.I have never trusted myself with "credit"...if I cant buy with cash I do without.I always buy"on sale" and go to used outlets places for everything but food.My biggest expense beyond bills is pet supplies....worth every penny.I do spend to much at thrift stores because I buy for all my "poorer" clients and family members.(all on disability and barely making it)and I collect "everything" with the intention of selling it off someday...then get to attached and cant seem to part with the (mostly worthless)stuff.....so yes and no.

I get about $1000 in "disability pension" (it's not called that here in Sweden, they use an euphemism instead - of course) and I'm able to save a little of it every month but not as much as I'd want to.

There are times when I am rather lax with money and then others when I can be quite frugal. I have student loan debts though and a bank loan, a the future is minor poverty it seems!

I can't hold on to money. Gotta spend it. The only solution that has worked for me is to buy everything I need for the next 2 weeks, then when I blow the rest of it, it won't matter so much. Though that means that I don't have a rainy-day fund.

No, I never spend money because I never need to buy anything or want anything.. Discipline? Maybe, I can easily say 'no' but it really just lies with the fact I dont want anything..

When I was young, I used to save money like a Jew. If it wasn't for that fact, I would have spend load of money because of my depression.
