Lets say science and technology developed and tested a pill, and it has no harmful effects, but it caused you to be "cured" or your Aspergers. Giving you the ability to live a normal life. You would automatically be NT.

Would you take it?

Yeah, why not.

This identity is doing me no favors.

Frankly I don't know, while it would be a boon socially talking, i fear losing what is making me myself.

my passions, my love for electronics and video games, ect....that is a part of myself i do not wish to lose.

on another side, it could make me happier in the end, making me easier to "fit in", but i just don't know......

But doesn't aspergers make it so you have better long term memory but worse short term? And would I still be super logical?

I mean those are 2 huge parts of me.

If it had no harmful effects (as in not getting rid of what I had mentioned) then there would be no reason not to take it

Not sure if I am an Aspie but I have seen people say if the shoe fits I should wear it.

I guess I would, but only if it didn't take away my talents and interests. I could do without all the social awkwardness and misunderstandings that happen frequently.

If I could keep the positives than why not take it :)

No. I'm myself and my sense of personal identity is too strong to remove my being autistic from me.

I would remove my migraines. I would drastically alter my meltdowns (knowing that I'd still get them, because that'd not be an option, but making them easier on myself and others), but I'd not make myself neurotypical.

I cannot imagine living such that all my past memories are to some degree inaccurate about me. I'd have to relearn how to live. That's not something I'm willing to do to make my life a bit more convenient.

No. I like the person I am. I like being logical and focused amongst other things.

I would however encourage a "pill" for NT's to take to make them have Aspergers. That would be quite interesting to say the least

Could I still enjoy my special interests? ?

(and let them evolve over time, as I do)

I feel like that would mean having to re-learn day to day existence all over again. If it weren't for the fact that I have gotten to a point of at least understanding myself fairly well, I would probably say yes. As it stands, I'd really rather just have such a pill to eliminate anxiety.

Thing is, I don't know what the Aspergers has touched on or not, maybe I'll become normal only to find that NT me is weirder then Aspie me.

I agree, I don't think a pill would be harmless if we are talking about long term side effects as it could cause identity crisis and relapse. I think we can take advantage of our ability to analyze and think, it can be a negative ability in a busy chaotic day to day world but when it comes to certain topics, being analytical and deep can really help in certain topics and to see importance and understanding where most people wouldn't.

To be honest, that's not actually that far fetched. If researchers came up with a pill that completely changed our brain chemistry to NT standard losing reasoning skills, exceptional memory etc then I can't see many people taking it. Maybe it would be more attractive to people on the low functioning side of the spectrum, I can't really say. I'm pretty sure that there would be few in the middle area, and pretty much nobody from the high functional area.

That means that they'd have to come up with a pill that was a bit more precisely targeted. I mean, like altering specific bits to give people the same emotional range as NT's etc.

If they come up with a pill (or treatment, whatever) that can alter brain function to that degree then i'd suggest it's actually inevitable that the reverse pills would be developed.

Having a different emotional range would be highly desirable to the emergency services and the military. As a First Aider i'm able to remain functional when other people are frozen with shock and horror, and I can see people in the emergency services loving the idea of being able to calmly deal with stressful situations. The military would probably mandate the use of such a pill as it would reduce the chances of soldiers committing war crimes or friendly fire through stress reactions.

Meanwhile, the ability to obtain an exceptional memory would be so highly coveted that I could see that pill being a food additive added to peoples cornflakes.

For my part, i'd certainly try a pill for NT emotions as it'd make relationships easier, but everything else would certainly stay as being part who I am.
