I feel like I talk about my special interests too much on WP

Does anyone else feel this way?

Almost all of my posts include special interest stuff...

Looking through them, most of them mention music - I even use it as a source for examples for all sorts of things, when I'm writing posts. Looking back on it now though it feels a little ridiculous how much I talk about my special interests on here.

On here, you can never talk about them too much.

I agree. This is a website for people on the autistic spectrum, and one of our defining characteristics is talking a lot about our special interests.

I agree with you both. We should all feel free to talk about our special interests as much or as little as we wish and not worry about what some of the other people who prefer to hide their special interests think about our posting habits. If I want to talk about my special interests, I'm going to talk about them as often as I wish. I don't care if people say nasty things about it anymore on the boards or in the chat room that I never go into.

If you can't talk about your special interests here, then where can you? I find hearing about other people's special interests comforting and informative.

I've always felt welcome talking about them here, it's just I find it strange/interesting how much I talk about them here, find ways to tie them in to most posts, etc.

I know how you feel, because mentioning your special interest is so tempting. Each time I mention my obsessions (bus-drivers) I always get the impression that anyone (even Aspies) roll their eyes and don't take me seriously, and jump on to the next subject - even if they don't even know I have an obsession with bus-drivers!

I think I tend to witter on about things that bother me a tad too much, not so much special interests. I post about my photography in the photography related threads, but that doesnt count does it?

I witter on about things that stress me out, like people staring at me for no reason in public, the way people claim NTs have empathy and Autistics don't when there's enough proof to tell that this is not true, and much more.

Absolutely, that's the point of coming here, to be in a place where things like this are accepted and understood. If someone goes on about a special interest that doesn't interest me, I acknowledge to myself that that is their thing, I smile, because I think special interests are cool even when they're not for me, and I skim or skip that and read on. It's not a problem at all. I especially admire when someone is extremely knowledgeable. Although it makes me sometimes feel like a bit of a dilettante about my own. Some people here have amazing memories and comprehension of complex things.

(Yeah, I know, it doesn't exist, but I didn't want to leave you out of the celebration).

I'm obsessed with Routemasters and anything that resembles a Routemaster though it might be a slightly different make of bus.

I find other people's special interests fascinating. It's a celebration of the diversity of life. A different frame of mind can provide a uniquely different outlook on an issue and open your eyes to a microcosm you haven't been aware of.
Self denying conformists are boring.

When my Aspie talks about his special interest I just love it. Yeah because its him but its nice to see/hear people excite about something they love. He'll start rambling, then I think he's trained himself to stop and change the subject. I always tell him to keep going because I want to hear about it. I actually learn a lot. So I say to you, keep going because we want to hear about it!
