G'day,

Just wanted to ask if anyone has experience with any psychiatric drugs for treatment of OCD.

More specifically the obsessional thoughts. What drug removed your obsessions or at least dulled them down?

I'm am currently on Fluvoxamine (which I took about 6 years ago - and starting again).

I wanted to try other drugs hence i stopped previously, but am now taking it again. 50mg in the morning and 150mg at night. 200mg in total.

a little bit sedating, but I'm only a month into (starting again) and am slowly feeling the effects. i do know it is a med for Ocd, which I have.

Cheers,

I'm not sure what you mean by "Asperger's related OCD obsessions" the two are separate disorders, and while they might be co-morbid, they are distinct from each other.

SSRI class medications are most commonly used to treat OCD. In the US these go by the brand names Prozac, Zoloft, Luvox, Paxil, and there are Celexa and Lexapro though I'm not sure how often they are proscribed for OCD....be warned that Paxil has been associated with rather debilitating withdrawl symptoms.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can work fairly well for OCD as well.

Cheers to Anafranil (clomipramine) for making my OCD and panic attacks manageable after a literal lifetime. Miracle drug for me. I wouldn't have a job without it.

Even though asperger and ocd are separate dissorders, because of the co-morbidity they have many traits of each other. Hence obsessiveness is very normal in aspies, especially if under stress.

They do not have traits of each other. As stated in a previous thread, the obsessions in OCD are intrusive thoughts and irrational fears. This differs from obsession in AS, which is typically more akin to an intense interest in a particular subject or difficulty with transitions.

Yes, I forgot to mention tricyclics such as Anafranil and Tofranil (imipramine) are sometimes used in the treatment of OCD.

Well, Lexapro took away my germophobia, but I think that Risperidone is what takes my bad thoughts away. The reason I say that is because once I started building up a tolerance to it, the bad thoughts came back. Then they went away again when my psych upped the dosage.

I have intrusive thoughts and irrtational fears and I have AS.

So I think it was reasonable for Heidi80 to mention it. :)

Depending on the nature of the intrusive thoughts and irrational fears, you might have OCD and AS. Intrusive thoughts and irrational fears are not characteristic of AS.

Yes it's possible.

Mine is just of the Ruminating sort - whereas over the course of my life, I've come to see that even with intrusive thoughts, may not necessarily be OCD itself and quite a manifestation of AS.

I'm not tryin to prove you wrong or anything. Just my 2cents :)

And to steer back on topic, I'm taking Faverin/Fluvoxamine for this Ocd/Obsessive thinking which is helpin me to manage.

Usually for OCD they'll give you an antidepressant (which helps with the anxiety) and put you in therapy so you can re-learn some of the stuff that OCD has "taught" you. As far as I know, recovery from OCD is common, but takes a lot of effort.

I tried Ritalin (officially prescribed). buth that made me very unstable.

I tried dextroamphetamine (officially prescribed), but that may me rather numb.

I tried various illegal substances including LSD, levoamphetamine, methylone and 2-FMA (self-medicated). Those did benefit me a lot, but the stimulants to tend to be addictive and result in dependence.

Currently, I try to stay free from any medication most of the time, although I do self-medicate occasionally.
