Every time I go to a website, more than half of them say that autistic people have a lack of imagination. If I hear one more thing from these prejudice sites saying autistic people have no imagination, I'm going to scream. Why do these sites say that we have no imagination?

Just kidding, but I really don't know. Maybe it's the "taking things way too literally" part, I can see how that could be misinterperted.

I love how they spew these "facts" about people under the spectrum. I have ALWAYS had an overactive imagination, sometimes it has gotten me into trouble and I should have gotten into creative writing, so I have been told anyway. Then again they also said that many of those who have ADHD are extremely creative. I have ADHD, my daughter has it as well and she is extremely creative.. then again I suspect my son has it and he is under the spectrum.. he has none at the moment anyway. He is still young, lets see if it changes as he ages.

Lack of imagination, huh? My imagination typically takes over. Assumptions become reality which end up getting me into arguments with loved ones. Or I just fantasize about a variety of things........I love daydreaming

It probably means, inability to display imagination in the way an NT would. We don't fantasize about material things, we fantasize about concepts and ways to solve problems. Since NTs realize they're losing in the extent of who's imagination is more useful, being the majority, they're just going to discount people on the Autism spectrum as having a lack of imagination.

I agree! Daydreaming is fun! I am not taking any holidays anytime soon so I may as well dream about it

I can't imagine why they would say that...

Since people are just learning about the existence of AS, eventually they'll get the details right.

I am a very creative person... I am almost always creating something, one way or another. I can be in school and just start thinking about what I'll draw next, etc... Unfortunately, that hasn't been happening too much lately. Maybe stress? That's not good for my online art shop...

Autistic kids lack pretend play. I sure did when I was real little but it developed as I got older.

The use of the diagnostic concept of "lack of imagination" likely comes from the "triad of impairments" for AS, such as displayed here, http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=458&a=5489 . The triad is like the food pyramid, in that it is a quick summary of the diagnostic criteria that laymen can understand.
