Any form of aerosol spray in the air makes it incredibly difficult for me to breathe. It's completely overwhelming. My dad, of all things, sprays anti-static spray on his hair, and if my bedroom door is open, the scent somehow makes it down the hall and around the corner into my room, and I have to cover my face, or likely face choking to death. YUCK.

Air fresheners are completely awful.

The ones with built in fans can actually trigger asthma.

All air fresheners do is overlay whatever smell is there with a sickly synthetic one.

Rooms should smell of nothing.

If your room or house smells, open the windows for a few minutes several time a day.

I've only noticed that I have issues with synethic fragrances/chemical smells. In terms of natural smells such as spices, pinetrees, henna etc. I seem to have a more positive reaction than most people I know. One time I was doing henna tattoos with a friend and she was rather amused at how enamoured I was with the henna mixture (henna powder, lemon juice, sugar and clove oil).

Pretty much anything that has synthetic fragrances makes me sick though. In terms of things like perfume and fabric softener, if guests come to visit, after they leave the house I can tell where in the house they have been by the lingering smell. The worst smells are probably things like paint thinner and artist's fixitive.

I also have problems with certain food smells, namely certain foods that I don't eat though I'm not sure if it's the lack of familiarity with the smell or if it's a chemical food additive that I'm sensitive too. I do know that the times the students in my class convinced the professor to hold class in the cafeteria I got a stomach ache from all the unpleasant food smells. I generally avoid processed food myself and it seems to work.
